Hi , My 1098s has a blown motor ,(spun a bearing which scoured the bore and pistons and oil pump. Lost interest in it so am open to reasonable offers . Has done 17500km , registered with immaculate oem fairings . Had been used as a track bike so is set up well.
Would be interested in purchasing an engine also , with similar kmshttp://www.ducati.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=90387&stc=1&d=1446522183

Sorry, I reckon $5K would get a full rebuild and that equals $9K
any interest in parting the bike out?

ok, good luck with the sale.
Thing is , its not a wreck , just spun a bearing and ruined the bore and pistons . Still has 6 months rego, just a shame to pull a good bike apart. Be easy if some onr had a motor to sell, be back on the road in a day.

Rubbish on here as a 1198 donk for sale, not sure what the freight would be, but I do know someone with a shipping container full of Ducati parts bound for Sydney out of Santa Cruz if your not in a big hurry?

Nope, I bought rubbish's motor.
Am amazed that auction bike was even written off. Seems like its just a few scratches on the side!

I think it is a repairable write-off so it can be re-registered.
That's why I suggested it the OP

Bent frame tabs for peg mounts will write a bike off.. Wouldn't take much.

Doubt it .
Nearly have all the parts now to rebuild the motor. Anyone know where I can purchase big end bearings and a water pump. ?

Desmo HQ - Desmo Headquarters is an authorised Ducati dealer and service centre located in Byron Bay, Australia

Plus of course directly from your nearest dealer, or DUCATIOMAHA.COM

Good luck with your rebuild & Merry Christmas

Craig
Just a quirky aspect of the big-end shells I encountered V2.

They come in two slightly different sizes, marked either yellow or blue.

They are only fractions of a thou different in thickness (blue slightly thicker from memory) but the yellows were about $25 each, and the blues were about $50!

Just so you don't get a surprise. And the markings on the crank which are supposed to indicate which size they need weren't there on my '07 S.. I had to work it out. And of course had to buy another pair of blues - the dear ones..

And you are supposed to replace the rod bolts as well - I guess you are across that. Those and the head gaskets were a significant extra cost on my rebuild last year.

Along with the pistons I had to buy when I only needed rings.. Hard to rebuild these cheaply, even when you are doing all the work yourself.

Made mine feel like new again though, so I don't really begrudge the pistons. Still love the bike!

Pat, got the colour codes on the rods. Didnt realise I needed new rod bolts tho. Thanks for the heads up.
Where did you get the bearings ?
