I have a Tricolore with the full Termi exhaust. It is the first Ducti/Superbike I've owned. I am totally unfamiliar with the characteristics of Ducatis and need to learn alot of stuff. So----

1- Is it normal for the valve train to "clatter" when at idle. Is that a result of the design of the valve train?.

2- The shifter and brake pedals have a flat pad for one's foot. They are at an angle rather than parallel to my foot and the contact is on the edge instaed of the flat. Seems to me that if they're going to make them flat that's what you should step on. I have had to modify the brake pedal linkage to get the pad low enough to be able to just flick my foot over to it rather than raise my toe up to get to it. Why the angle?

3- I have the stalling issue which is covered elsewhere in here. But when restarting the starter barely turns the engine over as though the battery is almost dead. Waht's with that?

4- When engaging 1st gear it goes in with a slight "clunk" and the bike moves a little. Very similar to Harleys. Normal?

5- There are 4 red indicator lights on the upper right of the dash. One is large and blinks after shut down. The trhee small ones illuminate at key on and never come on again. The manual doesn't say what they are for. Anyone know?

6- When running the engine up in neutral it misfires/skips/runs rough and will quit for a split second. When operating below 3500 rpm under a no load condition it does the same thing. Over 3500 it smooths out. I have the gut feeling it's too lean down there. ?

As well as modifying the rear brake pedal I have switched the shift pattern to GP style (1up and 5 down). Also made some hand grip sleeves out of neoprene wet suit material which have greatly reduced the stress on my wrists. I may add two more to see how that feels.

Any comments/input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lee

1 - probably normal. it is the desmo valve train. except for maybe item 6
2 - seems right for my foot
3 - bad battery terminal connection?? one of the things to check to help stalling.
4 - should shift smoothly. needing adjustment??
5 - lights are shift light. won't come on until approaching red line. large light is hitting limiter.
6 - bad setup. probably affecting item 1 & 3

have dealer go over it again.

Other thoughts...

Being new to Ducati's are you sure the "valve train clatter" isn't the normal dry clutch rattle?

Ducs do tend to turnover slowly when starting. This is my fifth Ducati and all did so... but they started. Be sure to keep a battery tender connected. Duc batteries can fade over time.

It is normal for there to be a first gear clunk and the bike to move a bit. Happens with other makes owned before... Honda, BMW, Harley, and Ducati.

No it isn't the clutch,. That one's obvious and when i pull in the clutch it lessens. This is just mechanical noise from the top end and knowing zip so far about Ducs I was just curious.
