Considering changing the ST3 over and am thinking of going back to a Monster.
The two I have in mind is the 2013 1100 EVO or a 2013 to 2015-ish 1200. I'm aware that the 1100 is air cooled vs liquid cooled on the 1200.

Any comments or thoughts on the 1100 vs 1200 bike?

The 1100 is more comparable to the 821 than the 1200 monster.

The 1200 is going to be more reliable, have longer service intervals and will have a more modern dash and general feeling, but the 1100 has a bit more character in my opinion.

I considered the 1100 evo before getting the 821, swayed by the long term cost saving and the performance increase the 821 had over the 1100 evo.

I have owned both, but in the reverse normal order. I could probably write a very boring book on the subject, but it boils down to a few things. The 1200 is supposed to be more reliable, but it wasn't for me. It would stall if I revved and abruptly let off the throttle even after a reprogram at the dealer, and neutral was harder to find. The 1200 is also much heavier than advertised, and it rides less nimbly due to the longer wheel base. However, it was more comfortable. The 1200 has much more HP ~ 145ish and feels scary fast. The 1100 has a lot of torque ~ 74 ft-lbs, but only 100 HP. The 1100 evo is more shaky, very light, and rambunctious; and it also has a really small gas tank. In the long run, I will keep the 1100 evo forever as I don't ride that fast anymore. But I will miss taking my Ducati on long runs. Finally, the 1200 was red, and turned heads everywhere; my 1100 is black and most people think it is a crotch rocket even though it is modded to cafe racer-ish.

Sorry for the long post. TLDR - 1100 evo for me, but not for everyone. The 1200 was Sophia, the 1100 was Nera.

Respectfully,
Rob Schroeder
