After removing the factory 'perfromance' air filter element from my 1198, I was surprised to find that the air box had made contact with the element and actually rubbed holes through the element itself.
I have ordered the two piece filter from MWR, so it should all be sorted.

Here are some photo's of the damaged element. Is this a common problem ?

Thanks for the feedback gents - looks as though it is indeed a common fault, and something that owners should check if they have not done so already.

You have more problems than that with those filters have a look in the airbox and see how much shit has leaked passed the shit Ducati setup.
Get a aftermarket filter ASAP.
Do a search on the subject and see how bad the OEM filter is.

I took your advice from another thread @bstar360 regarding the changeout of the OEM filter - I did find a small amount of contamination in the airbox due to sealing issues of the factory setup.
