Brand new to the forum and need some help. I have a very low mile (4,782) 2000 748 with a stalling problem that I can't figure out. When I bought it over the winter it had been sitting for 2 years. I replaced all fluids and and the fuel filter and when I finally started it on my rear stand it ran great through every gear. When I pulled it outside for the first ride it died immediately when I let out the clutch while in gear. I checked all hoses inside the tank and replaced a couple that looked weak and still the same thing. only dies when I am sitting on it. I did have to take the throttle bodies off to clean when I first got it. I marked the tps position before removing it and reinstalled in the exact spot. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

As a safety feature, there's an interlock between the clutch lever switch, neutral switch and sidestand switch that prevents starting off on the later bikes with the sidestand down. So, if you start off with the sidestand down (fully release the clutch with the transmission in any gear) the computer stops the engine.

The sidestand switch, or associated wiring and/or connectors, is likely the problem – it's telling the computer that the sidestand is down and to stop the engine when the clutch is fully released.

Repair the sidestand switch or install a bypass kit (jumper wire) that tells the computer that the sidestand is always up

OPERATION

The engine can be started with the side stand down and the gearbox in neutral. In order to start the engine with a gear engaged and with the clutch lever pulled the side stand must be in the raised position.

So, if the bike is running and in gear, with the clutch lever either pulled or released, if the sidestand switch correctly or incorrectly indicates that the sidestand is down the engine is shut off.

Further, if the bike is running and in neutral, with the clutch lever either pulled or released, If the sidestand switch correctly or incorrectly indicates that the sidestand is down the engine will still run.
