Dude, if you're in the city you're thinking way out there. Both are absolutely terrible city bikes. I'd limit my search to either a Monster 696 or one of the new Yamaha FZ-07 or FZ-09. They're all reasonable standard motorcycles with ample power to get around and be comfortable. Because of where I'm living for the next couple years I'm forced to do a mix of city riding with my 848 (1098's little brother) and it's miserable...it's extremely hot when in traffic, always get my hands caught in the fairings doing lock to lock turns, the gearing is too tall for cities, etc. At the end of the day it's your money and your choice though.

+1 on superbikes being lousy in traffic. It all makes sense out on a sweeping back road though...

I thought we scared Kevin Williams off. He had 1 post and the thread is now like 5 pages long!:D

Funny that this Kevin Williams guy just made his 2nd post on this forum thanking us for the suggestions and he says he will get a 1098 next week.....doesn't look like "he's on 1098s rolling in streets" like you said.

What a strange thread. He says he saw his mate in Denver (who doesn't seem to know him) riding past his house, but he is currently living in India?
Not sure about this.
But I know from my time in India that it doesn't have a good road system for a Ducati Superbike or an R1.
The Suzuki 120 suggestion was probably a better idea.

For a first bike you can't go wrong with either. Make sure to not wear a helmet because it can cut off circulation to your brain and will give you headaches. A lot of protective gear is way too hot for India and really doesnt protect you that well. Sandals, shorts and tshirt is all you'd need plus the street cred and badass status will attract all of the ladies.

well I am Here now and its too hot here guys.
you guys don't believe but here a yamaha r1 costs me around $26k (1560000 INR).
In Delhi there is group of riders who call themselves G.O.D.S. ( GROUP OF DELHI SUPERBIKERS) but no sign of a 1098 :( .
kevin the reason why there is no ducati here is that it costs $52k to buy a 1098S.
