Need to get a new clutch for my 2000 748 as I have discovered the plates have started to eat into the basket metal.
I only discovered it this morning when I was getting ready to go to work so I have no idea what the inner parts of the clutch are like in regard to wear.

Long story cut short, anyone got some recommendations for either complete replacement of clutch or basket and plate replacement only.

How many miles on the bike ? Usually, you only need to replace the clutch plates. The plates will "dent" or inscribe the basket itself after a period of time. Thus the clutch gets louder and rattles more. I have 14,625 miles on my 999s, and I havent' had to change the basket yet.... I have changed the clutch about three times though (Track days will "Eat" up the clutch faster).

Using the trusty calculator, my bike has twice as many miles on it as your 999 as my 748 has 53k km's on it, but I don't know how old the clutch is as i am the third owner and only had it a year.

As for noise, this sucker is pretty noisy and lots on people with NFI (No F'n Idea) have commented on the "rattly bike" I have.

NAEF cycle have the Barnette gold basket on e-bay for like $200! Great guy to deal with as well. He will ship from the States also. I put one on my 748 and can tell the difference as the stock one is metal and the Barnette is aluminum. The motor will spin easyer as there is a big weight difference! While you have it out, vent your housing as well!
