A good place to get the tools, and I would (and have) purchased his manual.

Desmo Times Home Page

I also purchased some from moto wheels.

Great guide for service and rental tools
Welcome

You should not need belts at 7500 just check them and make sure they are not lose. You don't need the degree wheel/dial, at least I don't think you need them ( I didn't for my service).

I already have a manual i downloaded so will use that for reference along with youtube videos. I thought the belts had to be replaced every 2 years regardless? Its a 2012...
Which manual desmos or the OEM ( I have both)?

Well I've heard it go both ways but I really will depend on if they look good I guess, to be safe you can change them. I'd differ this to more experienced members maybe Pat?

I've had 2 belt failures 1 was an OEM issue the other I believe was from me not tightening them enough. The first time I got lucky the second time it was ugly...

TChase, did you notice how much you saved by doing this service yourself? I'm contemplating whether to do it myself or take to the nearest duc shop. How was your experience?
If you are going to keep the bike investment in tools can be 300-600 (depending on what you already have and where you shop)

In truth I like to do it but I also like to know it's done right. I blew up my 2012 evo engine at the track and in the back of my head I ask did I miss something (partially tightening the belts I will never use the tone method again go by feel). I got 7k miles after my service before my engine blew so I don't think it was me more to the fact I was lazy and didn't check the belts.

I will be doing my 7500 service on my (new used) engine soon. Not sure if that answers your questions :(

I plan on being economical but still using OEM or better parts. Once i get everything and have a plan of attack i will take pics and start a DIY thread for other people who need help. I can't find a good guide out there for the life of me.

Just need a parts list, tools list, and directions for a good guide! Going to order up some of the stuff today will post shortly what i get.

It sort of does. I would be worried about doing something incorrectly and messing things up. The only things thus far I've done on the bike is basic maintenance and I would be weary of doing engine work. Perhaps with some more experience I wouldn't mind working on my own bike. Looking at the cost benefit analysis you do save between 500 to 1k by doing the service yourself. Reading other posts it seems that the valves tend to be in spec anyways. So aside from that it's fluids, miscellaneous tightening things stuff and resetting the light
