This past Sunday I was involved in a collision with a car that avoided an accident with another car and road debris. He locked up his brakes and swerved 90 degrees into my lane. I went from 80 mph to about 15-20 mph before I came to a stop on the side of his car. The rush allowed me to pick up my own bike by myself and move it out of the road. This was my first motor vehicle accident, and it just so happen to be on my new (used) ducati 848. It should have been worst but thankfully my training and these Brembo brakes saved my life. I got a few scratches and was able to ride the bike home, somewhat.

I'm doing the insurance part now, and adding up all the parts on ducati Omaha has me at 9k before labor cost. State farm has been awesome so far, hopefully I can get everything assessed and settle soon, it sucks not riding this amazing machine.

I just wanted to share this with you guys. I've been reading about possible total loss situations and how people have handled their accidents. If it's totaled I won't keep it, I'd get another 848 or 899. I was told that if the handle bars won't lock all the way, that the frame is slightly bent where those little tabs are. The right side fairings are scuffed up pretty good too, along with the fork leg by the front axel thing

Thanks you guys, the witness that was driving behind me was also a rider and he told me that it should have been a lot worst, I guess I handled the bike fairly well, I blackout during the last part but the negligence of others (especially in maryland) always effect others who are paying attention. And that fucker didn't even stop....

Damn man glad you ok. Where you from?
I'm live in waldorf md.

Man, you lucked out! Sounds like it could have been a lot worse, glad you made it out pretty much unscathed. Bike looks great, insurance should be able to fix it no problem as it wasn't your fault.
Thanks man, I count my blessings. I looked up the parts and it's a lot surprisingly. Everything that is scratch or damaged have to be replaced. I'm happy I have state farm because everyone says they are awesome and fast.

If that's true then it's an easy total. You do have the option to buy it back cheap and use it for a track bike though. I'd be tempted to go that route if almost all of the damage is cosmetic, which it appears to be.

Even if it isn't totaled, shop around for used and aftermarket parts that can be had for a fraction of the cost of OEM. For example, I bet you can snag a set of Woodcrafts for what an overpriced Ducati factory rearset would cost you.:naughty:

Glad my mishap could be useful. I made out in the end, but it's definitely no fun going through the process. If you're not super attached to the 848 like I was, an 899 is a nice step up in handling (if it's anything like the 1199, anyway).

At least you're not hurt; at the end of the day that's the only part that really maters.:yo: You should check out my Mustang thread if you want to see some carnage... It's hard to believe I didn't even get a scratch because the car ended up looking like a fatal wreck for sure.
