i'm hoping this is just a battery issue but we'll see...
i just picked up my 05 999R and i can't get it to start...
its in neutral, kickstand is up and i'm also clutching in...
coolant temp is 7c
now here is my ducati inexperience kicking in...i'm going to assume this bike is super finicky...its been in transport for 3weeks..when i first turned it on, the voltage was at 10.9 and when i tried to start i got a click and then nothing..i put it on a 2A maintainer overnight and it ALMOST sounded like it wanted to go (i heard the first glorious note) then nothing. the voltage was then at 11.4...the battery can't be that pooched ....can it??

Ducati battery woes

Shaun,

Yes, after 3 weeks in transit, your battery could very well be cooked. Ducati's are notorious for having battery/charging problems. Buy yourself a new battery and a battery tender.

new battery...it started up...orgasms ensued...all is well
Shaun,

That's what I'm talking about! Don't forget to put a battery tender on your new battery or you'll soon be in the same mess again!

Why are Ducatis so hard on battery systems? I've let my Kawasaki sit for months and just put it on an overnight charger and it would fire right up. Obviously my old British bikes don't give me these problems either but then they don't have electric starters. What is so "different" about the Ducati that you could lose a battery in only 3 weeks of non-use?

something else wrong

a new battery should last a while. i would look elswherre - if there is an alarm then 99% this is the culprit, otherwise I would be tempted to take it to the dealer(if you get it started)

Where are you located?

- A good battery won't need tending that often. I've left mine for over a week without issue. (And I often start mine with my - HIDs - high and low on)
- If it's turning it's obviously not the battery
- I forget, does your bike have a cold start lever? (it's on the left clip-on, make sure it's not all the way on or something wacky like that)

Contrary to the manual, I have been instructed to start without the cold lever and use the lever to keep it going if necessary. Worst case use the lever, FYI

I forget what happens if it's in gear so bear with me...could you have had a false N light?

And where are you located?
