Dear 1098's:

Spent a good deal of time on the site prior to 848 purchase and I finally understand the Ducati appeal. Honestly, what a wonderful experience.

Any case, learned alot from you guys and just had one follow-up on the rear set issue:

I could not find any commentay on which rear set option was most suitable for "comfort control" or perhaps lowest level adjustability. I am looking for the best rear set that, when needed, allows the most peg down postion to accommodate the most upright seating for longer voyages and was just hoping to get any comments / advice.

I heard Acculign was the most adjustable ? True? But I like the Gilles look and workmanship.

Are they that much different in terms of movement of pegs down (1/2 an inch, inch, etc).

In any case, not to bring up an old thread but I wanted to gather your thoughts on which brand is most adjustable "down", I guess is the proper way to describe it. Or, are they all the same more or less ... ?

I'm doing a similar search.

Sato's only move up and forward.
Woodcraft only move up and forward.
Acculign claim to offer the same adjustablility as shown on their site with the 998 rearsets. (IIRC) This appears to allow 1/4" down and back.
Arrow mentions Up/Dn/For/Bac, but provide no spec.

I haven't found an adjustment range yet for the DP units or Gilles.

I'd like to move the pegs back some, so I can lock my knees into the under-tank plastic triangular cut-out.

VicDuc ... I'm headed the opposite way. At 5'8, I'd like to move them down and forward some to straighten the back up a bit. Do you know through your research if Sato and/or Woodcraft go forward and down and if so, how much (again 1/4 inch, 1/2, etc more).

BTW...my impression on the Acculign web site is that they go any which way, just don't know how far (1/4, 1/2, etc) ... including down and back (but I could be wrong).

Eric from Woodcraft email'ed me with;" from about 1/4" up to 1 1/4" up and and 0 to 3/4" forward. "

Sato, to give them much credit, has a chart showing the rearset positions,
however they move only forward and up.

Hi all,am new to this forum.I have Gilles rearsets on my 1098---they do offer the greatest range of adjustment especially downwards and back(measurements already posted above) compared to Sato etc. They are infinitely adjustable within their range.
There are a couple of problems if the pegs are set as far down as possible:
a) the gear lever will contact the top edge of the belly pan (only just though and not enough to interfere with down changes)if the footpeg is on it`s lowest/furthest back setting.
b)the rear brake pedal is more of a problem unless you like it set very high. If you prefer it to be significantly lower than foot peg level, the Gilles replacement lever will bind heavily on the upper edge of the bellypan--enought to compromise its function. I retained the original Ducati lever as it has a"dogleg" design and "overhangs" the bellypan edge even on its lowest setting. The Gilles lever is "flat" and will bind if set low.
Other than that they are very well made with nice grippy knurled pegs and I`m certainly more comfortable with the lower (cf standard pegs) footpeg setting.

I installed Arrows on mine and it seems to have a great range of adjustability.

If you move the peg up and down you have 3/4" between each end. If you going back and forth there is also 3/4" between the two. If you go diagonally up and forward in this case you get a full inch. I hope this can help someone! You also can extend the brake lever another 3/4". See last pic.

I don't know if this will help but the peg position on the Arrow is about the same height as the stock ones but is about 1/4" farther back than the stock. This is probably more accurate than the pics but I'll add them any way. Let me know if I can be more helpful!

HAH! I did not even know Arrow made them, they look pretty nice but I still think I like the look of the Sato's the best so far.

I installed the DP on my 1098 and they are really awesome. Still waiting for the DP carbon heelguards though. One slight whinge though they just rub slightly on the lower fairing on the gear change side.

I decided on Gilles in preference to Satos because;
1)Greater range of adjustment with Gilles ---Satos only go up and forwards, Gilles down and back as well.
2)The heelplates on the Satos are positioned well forwards and are not adjustable. They wouldn`t stop your boots fouling the exhaust and swingarm. Gilles are far enough back to prevent this.
There appears no difference in quality of finish. There is the brake lever problem I posted earlier with the Gilles but this is easy to overcome. No brake lever problems with the Sato as the lever is concentric with the foopeg and not separate as it is on the standard and Gilles set-up.
I`m happy with the Gilles overall.

No doubt that you can't go wrong with the Gilles but does it really matter that they adjust down? However you say that the Satos only go forward... The reason I say all this is because on my 600RR and I think most people run them all the way up, all the way back.
