Has anyone got any recommendations on an alarm? I talked with a Ducati dealership in Arizona and they want around $450 for a Ducati alarm (or Ducati recommended) and another $150 for installation. Thats about $600. This seams ridiculous to me. There are aftermarket alarms for about $200 and I'm sure I could have it installed for less than $150 or do it myself. What about the warranty with an alarm other than a Ducati installed alarm? any info would be great. Thanks.

Gengras Ducati in CT has the DP 1098 alarm on eBay for $400 and $15 for shipping. As for the install, its all pretty much plug and play, so you shouldn't have any "warranty issues" if you do it yourself, granted you know a thing or two about 12V motorcycle wiring / electronics.

If you go with a brand "X" model, then you may be required to do more cutting and tapping than you really want to, which only increases the risk or chance of something going wrong, even when left to a pro. Then and only then could I see Ducati standing back with their arms folded in saying - we cant help ya...

My suggestion, go with the DP 1098 specific alarm, if you absolutely want to get one. If you're unsure about the install, then leave it to a pro.

It's not the bike I have to worry about putting the alarm on...

One time I parked on the top floor of parking garage and I could see it from my office, and a guy walked by my bike and stared at it, wasn't looking where he was going and ran face first into some old chevy blazer. I thought it was hilarious. He looked around and couldn't see anyone so went back for another look at the bike. I love the stares it gets, but I think a lot of the time it's just people wondering what kind of bike it is if they aren't a rider themselves.

I went with the Scorpio alarm. I'm very happy so far. The alarm cost me around $300 and the installation was about $90. I ask my local Ducati dealership and the only thing that they did not recommend doing was putting an engine cut off or immovilizer in it, but everything else is fine. Anyways, the bike already comes with a security system with a immobilizer so unless you have the key the bike wont start. Here is the info on my Scorpio alarm: it has a battery back-up just in case they try to cut the battery cable the alram will still go off, has a perimeter sensonr that you can set however you want (meaning the perimeter distances), tilt sensor, and a 2 way FM pager that if my alrams goes on the pager will vibrate up to a half a mile of range. I have a gorilla alarm on my other bike, but is not as complete as this one. I will recommend either the Scorpio or the factory Ducati. You spent enough money in your bike already, might as well get something nice if you are going to put an alarm system on it.
