Just did the last track day and team GP race of the season. Ended on a pretty poor note as I couldn't get a personal best like I would've liked, and in fact I wasn't even close. I was 3 seconds of my pace from the last couple of months. Not really sure if it was something going on with me, or because I pushed those tires for 7 track days (2 of which were at a VERY abrasive track, and 2 at Road America which is not light on tires either, especially right side). Not sure if worn out tires can account for 3 or more seconds, but who knows...i'm hoping that's the case, or else not sure what's going on. I seem to be getting worse lately...might as well sell the bike and quit

I did do a couple of sessions on a friend's ninja 300 and that was a blast! Little bikes are the shit! :yo:

Were you off your pace and sliding everywhere? Did you, deep inside, have doubts about the tires that made you hold back? Did the bike and the track talk to you as normal? Maybe you just had a day when you just weren't "ON"?

I've had days where, on new tires, I've gone out and set personal bests; only to be followed later the same day by sessions where I couldn't hit an apex with tape marking the spot! Being able to correct that is part of the attraction of this challenging sport, IMHO.

No, not really, that's why I'm so confused about my low performance. Granted, I do have a Nemesis TCS and it was lighting up like a christmas tree when I was getting on the gas hard coming out of turns. That's probably why I never felt it slide. Maybe the TC was working much more than it usually does due to the lower grip? Personally, I felt like I was pushing as hard as ever, but the lap times sure as hell weren't showing it.

I don't know how you get 7 track days out of a set of tyres .
Bad luck anyway things sometimes fall that way . Had the same thing at my last time at the track .
yeah...i don't know either. Probably shouldn't have pushed it that far I'm guessing. I'm a cheap ass, and I knew this would be my last day, so I thought...what the hell! I can do one more day on these tires! Also didn't help that at the time I was thinking that I thought I had 5 days on them...but it was actually 6, so I pushed it to 7 days

I switched to Dunlops and it was the first time I ran these tires, so maybe I just wasn't used to judging the wear and performance drop on them...maybe? I don't know. If I go with these tires again...no more than 4-5 days on a rear!

Brand new slicks make a world of difference
But that much?? I would've thought 1-2 seconds maybe.

Huh? What is this last track day nonsense? Barber, NOLA, Road Atlanta, Jennings are still all on the calendar… :stickpoke

Yup…and that is why the KTM RC390 will be in my garage as soon as it leaves the ship… :naughty:

But they're still over 12 hours away! :p...I'm happy with this season anyway. I got to see a couple of new tracks, also made it to Road America for the 2nd time. And I improved my lap record at my local track by 6.5 seconds (this was earlier this summer)!

Nice! I am (or will be) jealous! Any idea of the price on those bikes here in the US?

Successful season it sounds like. I only did 2 track days this year so far (whoever came up with the concept of "work" should get feathered and tarred) and my crash in February apparently resulted in negative improvement time-wise… :banghead:

No idea yet but I would expect something around the $6k mark. It has some nicer features than both the CBR300 and Ninja 300 so I expect it to be a bit higher than those.

I am genuinely excited about that bike since I first saw it…if we happen to be at the same track next year, come look for me...

Will do for sure!

You're more optimistic than me. My first guess was that it'll be around 7500, but I hope I'm wrong.

Well…KTM indicates that they want to be very competitive with both the Kawasaki and Honda…so I am fairly certain there will be a 6 as the first digit…granted, it may just mean $6,999 but I seriously doubt that...

I'm hoping so too. From what I've heard, in the UK it's cheaper than the Ninja 300 by a few hundred pounds. But I just don't see the RC390 being less than $5000, since a 300 is in the low $5k range if you get the base model...

And there we go...I was wrong...but it is one of these cases where I am absolutely happy about it...MSRP is $5,499... :naughty:
