I looking to purchase a new helmet. I found two helmets that I like, one is an Arai RX-7 Corsair, and the other is a Suomy Spec1r Extreme. I curently own an Arai Rx-7RR3. Does anyone know how the Suomy is compared to the Arai. Which helmet do you think is a better helmet. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

I personally would buy the Arai RX-7 Corsair (I'm on my second), partly as I feel it is the better helmet, but also because it fits the shape of my head. However, at this level there is not much to chose between them, so the best helemt is the one that fits YOU the best.

I was debating between the two brands myself for quite some time. I ended up up going w/ the Arai RX-7. It's a great fit (for me). The Arai's seem to be more readily available. I love the helmet and am very happy with my decision.

Corsair

or the Profile if the Corsair is too tight. (My buddy has more of an "oblong" head and wears a Profile, says it's more comfortable)

The Suomys are cool but they're a bit too funky. Plus Arai is everywhere with parts etc being more readily available. Not to mention graphics galore.

I wear the new RX-7 Corsair Shuriken Gray and I guess they are just coming out with some other new ones...make sure to look at the Arai site for the latest. And don't trust e-tailers if they advertise older models, I got burnt by TWO of them who had advertised the one I wanted to find out they were both wrong. (Very inconvenient waiting for my money to be refunded etc, something you never think about!)

After several Arai helmets I have decided they are vastly overrated. I still have a couple, but I now think that between the two, Suomy is a better buy and the same build quality. If you like their graphics, that's a plus of course.
I have had need for Arai customer support in the past, and found it non-existant. They yak a big line in all their massive marketing, but fall down on that issue. As for parts availability, I would say that is a non-issue.
Do some reading of some interesting research and reviews at webBikeWorld.

Again, not knocking Arai needlessly, I have owned both and had Arai helmets for many years. But Suomy is a very serious contender.
I would just pick which one fits best, they are different critters in that arena for sure.

My two kopeks.

I would choose the Arai over the Suomy any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Better quality, better graphics, better everything, IMO.
Sorry dude, Arai is not better quality. Suomy makes just as good a helmet, if not better. Both helmets will save your life though. Just pick the one that fits your noggin best. Graphics should be the very last deciding factor. Although I will admit Suomy has kind of a limited selection of good graphics. Too many flowers.

Go to araiamericas.com, I read a testamonial written by a guy from Texas I think. He supposedly crashed at 140mph hitting his head on a sign pole. "The most damaged helmet we've ever seen"! There is a picture of it on the site. I have an ARAI Profle Italian flag helmet. Italian Bike, Italian Helmet.

The Arai doesn't fit me very well at all. On the other hand, my Shoei fits *perfectly*! I have an RF1000 and my wife has an X11. Both very nice helmets. I wear my wifes X11 and it ventilates about the same as my RF1000. In other words, I don't think the X11 is worth the extra money.

They are both very high quality helmets, the only way to know is to try both brands on and see how it fits on your head. they both are B.S.I certified. For me the Suomy just didnt fit well on my head, and im going to buy a RX-7 which fit perfect. the Suomy's do have stunning good looks however.

I've bought a Shoei and then I switched to Arai quick. I have a Profile and they are extremely comfortable and very agile. I do think that Arai has the best quality in terms of making helmets. I really like Suomy too..Two of my fav SBK riders wear them..Bayliss and Biaggi., You can't go wrong with either of them. In fact, Arai has won like 9 consective best customers rating award as well as best quality award many times. Why don't you purchase both and use either one for a daytime with smoked glass and use the other one at night time? I use my Arai-Profile for the night time and AGV-Rossi during the daytime. AGV helmets are very tight but I love it. (I feel like I'm a Racing during daytime when I'm riding lol) Good luck with your search.

IMO, buy the least expensive DOT/SNELL approved helmet that is comfortable on your head. More expensive does not mean more protection, this is a scientifically proven fact(if you want the links I'll post them...again). In fact the harder shelled more expensive helmets have been shown to transfer impact energy and actually cause a greater injury. Buy what you like and what fits. With that said, IMO the more expensive brands do usually have better quality.

i have a suomy spec 1r extreme and an arai quantum 2 the suomy in my opinion fits better its not as close to your nose and chin but the suomy has louder wind noise. the suomy also has vents that cant be closed so if you have to ride in the cold it sucks. ventilation is better on the suomy and the visor doesnt fog at all or atleast it hasn't for me
