New to the forum and I just picked up my first Ducati at an insurance auction and it says it is a 2008 1098 R but I have my suspicions.

Things at first glance look good, it does have a lot of R parts but the bike is missing a few things.

1. I don't see any connections for traction control at the front calipers but the rotors are not stock so there may be a new system on there.

2. No plaque designating build number near speedometer.

3. Ohlin rear shock reservoir does not have "TTX" on it.

4. Wheels are not gold color.

I need some expertise to help out.

I do need some parts if anyone can help out and point me in the right direction:
rearset
kickstand
handlebar riser clamps
bodywork behind seat

^example when you search for DTC (Ducati Traction Control) it takes you to the page and confirms it should have it.

Sorry to disappoint you, but this is NOT 1098R! The engine casings are not sand cast - first giveaway of 1098R engine and I can clearly see this from the pix. you've posted.
The mounting bracket for the steering damper is a bolt on part on the 1098R frame, the rest of the models have welded bracket.
The top of the triple tree should be Black in color on 2008MY with the 1098R engraving and the number plaque ***/450 or
Silver in color on 2009MY with riveted number plaque ***/500
TCS system was standard on 1098R and if your bike does not have it, you got your answer.
Rear 1098R subframe does not have provision for the passenger pegs and the tail mounting points are completely different from the rest of the 848/1098/1198 bikes. The list goes on, but you've got the point.

Thanks all. Love the knowledge here.

Looks like its an S dressed up to look like an R. Little disappointed but in any case I got an S with some awesome upgrades and a track day bike that's more than I can handle.

Appreciate the responses.

Engine might be toast though depending on the low side it had. Better have been either cheap or you have deep pockets.
