Basic Oil Change question

Recently just picked up a 1299 with 300 miles ready for its first oil change/service soon. Well technically second as the dealer I baught it from stated they just changed the oil. I assume oil only no filter due to time frame as it’s a 2017. I will be doing the change myself and changing coolant for the first time as even though it hasn’t moved, it’s time based on service manual.

I have read a lot and seen multiple videos of Threebond being used on drain plug and Loctite being used on Oil filter cap.

I am aware Service manual also says to use it.

Some videos and DIY’s people aren’t using neither or at least don’t mention them being used.

I have owned an R6 and have done many changes to drain plug, new washer every time “never torqued just tightened” and never had any kind of slight seeping or leak.

I’m curious if I will find loctite on the cover bolts and Threebond on drain plug that I will have to clean off the bolt when I do the oil for my first time.

If I don’t see any, I may not do it as it makes leaving less junk to clean off the crews and what not for future yearly changes and risks of over torquing.

QUESTION

Is Loctite on the oil filter cap screws and Ducati Threebond on the Drain plug REALLY needed if cleaned properly, and torqued correctly??

Just curious of majority opinions and if anyone has experience NOT doing either one and never having an issue with any leaks.

The primary purpose of Loctite is to prevent vibration-induced loosening/loss of the fastener and what it fastens.
The primary purpose of Threebond is to seal against leakage of fluids under low pressure.
That's why the Ducati Service manual recommends them. It's your bike, do what you want.
You can also purchase aftermarket cover and plug that will come with seals/oring so you don' have to use the sealant. As Shazaam mentioned vibration is the problem. If you get a drain plug with a hole you can wire tire that and just use loctite on the cover. I purchased resuable filter so I can wire tie that as well. Believe it or not they will and can back off.

I guess more so my question is just how many people on here have ran neither of those sealers and had no issues or did. Just to gauge peoples experiences
50 / 50.
If the bolts back out and result in a ruined engine, who is going to cover the engine rebuild cost ? I suspect that wont be a warranty covered eventuality. I'd stick with the recommendations in the official service manual. This springs to mind.

Hmmm, I just feel oil changes ever year as I won’t go more than 3k miles a year I’m sure..
That’s a lot of Loctite build up in those holes after many years down the road, and Ducati bond build up on threads in the oil pan hole.
I just find it strange for bolts that are meant to come off so often so 🤷🏻‍♂️
I’m still deciding on what I’ll do. I don’t want to ruin the ship! while not stuffing gunk on threads all the time too👀
Looking for more opinions still of experience of others
FWIW.

If you get an answer from Shazam!

THATS IT….
Ok, so dumb question. Do you not clean the threads every time? I always use a thread chaser and die and then hit with parts cleaner and wipe down. Then you can apply new thread locker or three bond (depending on application),

thanks I wasn’t thinking it through regarding the thread bond stuff, and just assumed it was similar to lock tight

but it’s rather like some Teflon tape in liquid form
Leak prevention sealant

I will have to apply some of that like wise to my r6 drain plug I’m doing the oil change on now
Thanks for thinking for me there so I could catch myself ha ha really
