When I first got the bike and it was stalling on occasion the starter really grunted when restarting. Almost wouldn't turn it over. Yesterday I accidentally stalled it and the starter did the same thing. Along with that is the length of time it takes for the batt tender to full charge the batt. When I got back from my putt I plugged in the charger and it took it 3 hours to get a steady green. I can put that same tender on other batts and it''ll bring them up in about ten minutes. So the question is has anyone had problems with starter, alternator and batt and if so what was the fix?

Thanks,

Lee

Hi Lee,
the problems of stalling, hot (and cold) starting and related battery wear have been covered in this and other forums.
My bike has gone in this morning for the umpteenth time for sluggish starting (already had the starter motor upgrade) stalling (already been in 3 times, and now having a new ecu) and replacement mirror and seat assembly.
But when it is working well - wow, what a bike!!
Cheers, Michael.

I had the same problem and just ignored it untill it was too late, that is to say, my battery melted. You need to bring it back to your dealer. Mine has been in getting fixed for the past week and a half.
When my bike stalled I had to let it sit for a minute, most times, because it wouldn't start back up (not enough power in the battery or the starter just wouldn't work). It was a pain in the ass. So as I write they are fixing my bike. He's ordered a new alternator, starter motor, battery, fly wheel and performance ECU. Hopefully this will fix all the problems I've had with the bike. The longer it's in getting fixed the more annoyed I'm getting, not to mention kinda embarressed when I have to explain to all my friends and co-workers why I'm not on my "Brand New" $17k motorcycle!! "Ahhh ...ya....it's ahh.......being fixed"...........What's wrong with it?.........."A bunch of things".........What do you mean a bunch of things? It's brand new isn't it?.................."Exactly"!

Starter

Hmmm, the starter, interresting.

I have been following this issue few months now, my bike is almost 4 months old. I had the ECU at 2000km. And starting, seemed no issue to my bike but I got worried when hearing that in Holland dealers were replacing starter kits for all models with vin below xx4000. I asked over here and dealer said there is no recall for bikes without problems. When I am reaching 3500km, it lookes like it is doing difficult specially when the battery is not plug-ed in for like 4 days. I also have the Orange Engine LED being on a lot lately. Could it be related perhabs?

I hear ya man. Mine has been fixed but I felt the same way. Its very embarresing telling your buds you cant ride with them cause your bike is in the shop, especially when its brand new and especially when they are on Hondas/MV's/Suzukis/Yammys.

I'm still on the fence as to whether I would buy another Duc or not. Its nice having something thats this beautiful and semi-rare but I'm a rider and I want to ride not sit in my garage and admire the thing. I sometimes wonder if I shoudl have gotten the Brutale instead or another Jap bike. We'll see how it behaves the next year but if it acts up again I'm pretty sure I will be selling it, its just not worth the headaches that come along with owning this thing.

Thank you all for your input. It has to go in for a new ECU on the 5th so I'll pressure them to go over the components. I may be nuts but even with the troubles I wouldn't own anything else. And anyway they'll eventually sort it all out.

Mine has trouble starting after stalling, struggles trying to crank over. I reckon the starter hasn't got enough ommph whatever as it charges fine. Had the new ecu put in at my expence with the full system and is a bit better. Was told a load of wank by the dealer about it being normal for a bike with high compression.

Well then they ought to put in a starter with enough whack to spin it over when it's full hot. You're right-big load of wank. What'a these guys think we are-stupid?
