Hi Guy's,

New kid on the block with my first post. I plan on picking up a 1098s (Black) as soon as I can find the best price in the Southern california area.. Will also be looking for any deals on the Akropovic full system & ECU

Suggestions??

Thanks All.

My advice would be to call around and get prices. Use the price you get to try and get a lower price. Thats what I did and it worked out great. I got the lowest price of anyone I know on mine... which turned out to be a topic of great debate on another forum.

Good luck!

That's really the best way to go. It really depends how much on their stock and how badly they want to sell at the time you're ready to buy.

I think Kungfugripsta got his for $15.5K OTD and a 2008 1098! The other forum asked him to post his invoice as proof. :)

Im jewish

In all seriousness... what I said above really is the secret (not much of one actually) I have done the same with every bike or car I have ever bought. Get a price tell the next place to beat it. As for them balking come deal time... never ran into that I always ask them to fax me a quote after I get the price I want. Has always worked very well in the past. Prepare to make several calls.... I bought mine in Newport which is roughly 60-70 miles away from where I live... but it was worth the ride over there.

At this point, two dealers that quoted me at 21K otd have balked when it came time to close the deal :(

Bastards!
Well make that three... Went to close the deal with the third and final contender.. Low and behold, when they un-crated my new black steed.. The crate & inventory was mis-labeled and actuly contained a yellow standard..

Who are the three dealers? Have you mentioned to them this new thing called the internet and did you tell them about Ducati forums, where future customers lurk?

What do you mean they balked? They gave you the quote. The only way they could balk is if you made a low offer. Are you saying they didn't honor the quote they gave you over the phone or they wouldn't negotiate to a lower price?

We agreed on 21K OTD in each instance. Several phone calls back and forth to each dealer..

When it came time to close the deal (me give them $$) Then the excuses came out...

1. Oh, the manager decided we needed more $ cause it's black and we have to go pick it up. But we can give you red. (Thanks for wasting my time Del-Amo)

2. Oh, we thought we had one in stock & turns out we we can't sell a black one for that price. but will do red for that.

3. Golly-gee, when we went to un-crate your bike it was mis-marked/inventoried as a black S model, but was really a yellow standard..

All three dealers came to this same pattern. I could be wrong on my conclusions, but you gotta admit. There seems to be a pattern..

The impression is, the sales guy will say almost whatever he can to get you in the door, but when hit with heres my down paymet. They won't/can't produce and try to steer you to the floor full of the one's you don't want just to make the sale. They try (just like any other hi ticket item with commision)to take advantage of human nature of you wanting your toy's now and settling for what you can get.

I don't really want to out the other two dealers just yet, might be able to come to an agreement after Jan 1st.

RC51-05, sad story but I know where you are coming from! Sometimes dealers do stuff like that: the only way to make them stop is indeed to make everything they do PUBLIC such as in the Ducati Forum: that will give those dishonest dealers a wakeup call and perhaps after a while they will quit this type of practice.

Would you guys like to know another thing that works against these almost scams by the dealers? Call Ducati of North America and inform them about the event. After DNA will get three or four of the same type of calls for complains about a specific dealer they will take actions such as taking the dealership away from them: It has happened before......acually not even a long time ago.
