The 2008 are terrible bikes. They are not made from the usual haphazard Ducati mold.
When I bought my 996M after I sold it 12K miles later, I swore I would never buy another Ducati.
I only have 53K miles on my 2008 848 with no major issues.
For the most part it is easy to work on.
The only thing which worries me about the 2007- 2009 848 and 1098 is the radiator.
Ask the owner if the radiator has been replaced.
If it hasn't no big deal. Any decent radiator shop can repair it if it does start leaking.
