Changing number decals

I'm interested in seeing if anyone plans to take advantage of the fact that the "848" is not clear coated down on the side fairings, and replace them with decals to match the "Ducati" under the clear coat on the tank? I don't have a problem with the red, it just looks a little out of place (being the only red) and "slapped" on. I was considering changing them.

I would like to see a carbon fairing paint pearl white with just the 848 showing through in carbon. If I didn't just "blow" all my money on this bike then I would do it. But I also think the white pearl is going to hard to match. So I may be looking into just flat black decals.
I would think trying to match the "Ducati" on the tank would look good, but it is an off grey, so it may be tough. I just don't like the red since its the only red on the bike.
Color match

Do you guys not think that the color is close if not matching the cadillac pearl?

I thought the cadillac pearl had more red tones then grey tones but that may have just been previous years

Now that I think about it, the caddi does have some pinkish color at different angles.
The white 848 is a working piece of art. I look at mine every day, as it's temporarily being stored in my living room. I'm begging for real seat time, but the weather in central Ohio has not been cooperating for the last couple of weeks!

To me, the only aesthetic that seems "out of place" on the white bike is the red 848 decal. Ducati hasn't made a white bike since 1990, so it's not like anyone needs to read "848" on the fairing. So, I'm considering removing it entirely. I just think that doing so would "clean up" the appearance of the white 848, and it doesn't leave out the possibility of doing other artful mods to the bike.

For you owners of the white 848, what do you think of this? As for getting the 848 decal off, would a heat gun and fingernail do the trick? Has anyone done this yet? Thanks!

This reminds me of a song..... by MC BREED.

You have a sweet bike enjoy it and don't worry about changing the decals unless you are putting something unique like let's say Devon. hahahhahhaha.

Agreed, she's sweet! <grin>

To me, it's about both the decal color mismatch, and the actual physical placement of the 848 decal. In my opinion, I think the look of the bike can be improved by removing the decal, and/or replacing it with a decal of a different design in a different location on the fairing.

I haven't made up my mind completely, though, and I'm interested to hear what other owners of white 848's think about this.

Maybe this will help you decide. I actually like the look of the red "848" but I understand that it takes one's eye away from the rest of the bike. No decal looks too plain to me. The grey "848" looks good. The grey "848" on the red version seems to be a match for the grey "ducati" on the gas tank.

I agree, the white is too plain.

AS well the grey 848 logo looks far better than the red.
^^ could you do the same thing with all decals in black? I think this is the best option even thought the ducati on the tank would be hard to remove.

Well done, thanks for photoshopping the results above.

With the black studio background, I tend to agree that the 848 is too plain without a decal. I wonder if having a real background would make a difference? In either case, I think the grey decal is better than red, and I'd also be intrigued to see how a black decal would look. I wonder if the grey decal found on the red 848 can be ordered?

If I take the decals off, I'm also considering replacing them with a small tri-color emblem/decal/flag of sorts and possibly placing "848 Testaretta" in small form somwhere on the fairing.

I vote for keeping the red - just my $.02 - to each his own...
Here it is with all decals in Black.

I'm getting a couple made up like this for the race bodywork... which is pearl white!:D

I would have liked to see Ducati give the 848 a red frame and all red decals. I would have probably been cheaper to make as well, since they wouldnt have to do a separate paint operation.
I thought the red frame would look cool too, until someone mentioned I'd be riding a peppermint!
