Chinese 848 fairing set - Just had to try...

I thought I'd post my findings in one new thread. (Have been looking for such a thread myself)

About two years back I laid down my pearl white 848 while having holiday fun in Austria. Combination of enthusiastic throttle use and a slippery hairpin. Fortunately the damage wasn't that bad and, with some patching up, I was able to continue the holiday. Back home I cheaply repaired my fairings:

but the scratches on my bella have been a thorn in my eye ever since.

After a long time of doubt and searching the web for fairing replacement (front, left side and rear) I decided to just try out those Chinese sets. (purists probably didn't even open this thread, so I can speak freely now :D). Hardest part was to find a set which would match my pearl white tank. I came up with this one:

After some searching and comparing I pretty much concluded that all aftermarket sets are just a big guess and most probably they all come from China one way or the other.

So I picked the cheapest one I could find. Which happened to be this one. Shipping costs are included. Import duties excluded. I see the price has slightly raised, as I payed €290,- (about $320,-)

After asking if he could customize this design (848 instead of 1098S decals and some other changes) he answered with:
My friends, we can do this!
I ordered and paid for the set and exactly 7 days later (just as promised) they were shipped. I asked for some photo's before shipping, but I didn't get those.

10 days later the box arrived (here in The Netherlands).

All the parts are there. Small impression:

I must say, I'm surprised about the initial looks. Was a little sceptic about the decal changes I asked for, but they look great. Only thing they didn't customize was the front wheel fender, delivered in black allthough I asked for red. All parts seem to have been injection molded just as advertised. No glued parts (except for the duo seat cover of course).

So, first impression: good! But I'm not yet cheering. Next weekend I will try to install them on my bike and I'm bracing myself for the worst :D

I held the windscreen in place on the front fairing and that seems not to fit at all. Wonder if I will get that to fit when installing it on the bike.

To be continued.....

(oh, and did I mention that, when opening the box, I was welkomed by a nice Bubble Gum odor)

Just sat in traffic on the bike at 215F-220F for about an hour for the first time with the new fairings. Smelled HORRIBLE for a bit but no melting.

They put poison in toothpaste can only wonder what's in those fairings 😐

I wouldn't worry about it as long as you don't brush your teeth with the fairings...

My fairings are waiting at the post office for me to pick up. Ordered on 3/24 and delivered from China on 4/5. Not to shabby.

LOL looks like it wasn't swamp ass. Unfortunately..

Mine only came with 1/2ft x 1ft rectangles for each of the side fairing. I didn't think to put some on the bottom like Sirrah did.

Ouch. Sorry to see that. I'm buying some foil tomorrow and will start the install process.

Good thing I have a spare. Going to do a titanium wrap on the pipes as well, me thinks.

Whoa those pics :wtf:
That sucks man!

My fairing set didn't come with any heat foil btw

@Ducless;
Make sure to post some pics here when you're done

The rear fairing is on. I had to drill out the holes a little. Pillion cover won't stay locked. Glad I found that out prior to riding it.

I reused the spring, will try without if it every warms up, or I'll try and sand down some of the plastic.

Paint quality is really good for the price.

I probably won't complete till next weekend as it was to cold to finish on Saturday, and Sunday I laid around the house and watched motorcycle racing. :blah: :blah::blah:
Just a little heads up...

Also check the gap between the gear shift lever and the lower left fairing (full travel). While riding I noticed my lever chafed against the fairing when shifting down, which kinda make it stuck a little :p

Tried bending the fairing a little with a heat gun, but with little/no result.. Grinding did the trick though ;)

Good point, completely forgot about that. Mine is tight too but not that bad that I had to adjust it. The shift peg rubbed the paint off a bit but not enough to bind or cause shift issues.
Finished her up yesterday. I had to drill out some of the holes, which was not unexpected. Paint is pretty good and nothing rubs. I have vortex rear-sets so maybe that is the difference.

I found it much easier to pre-build the front, mid and lower fairings as one instead of individually.

Pictures shortly.

Looks great!! :yo:

Fits excelent with the tank!

Found a solution yet for the rear seat cover?

Mine opens pretty damn difficult. Should find a solid spring for it I guess (don't want to tamper with the original parts ;)).

Thx. I'm still really happy with it. I'm going to try and see if I can fix that today.
Bought my plastics from iFairing and they were OK. I'd rate at 7/10. Rear tail was a PITA, especially the lock section, but I got it to work. Few holes had to be drilled more, but overall everything fits good. The bolts they sent are junk, broke off two that I had to drill out :shitsweak:

Overall, worth it for the money. Packed well, painted good, fitment acceptable.

Fresh hoops, nice. Peel that sticker off before you ride...

Glad it worked out. Most of these aftermarket fairings will be about the same, some minor fitment issues but worth it in the end. Get some dzus on there too!
