Chinese 848 fairing set - Just had to try...

I thought I'd post my findings in one new thread. (Have been looking for such a thread myself)

About two years back I laid down my pearl white 848 while having holiday fun in Austria. Combination of enthusiastic throttle use and a slippery hairpin. Fortunately the damage wasn't that bad and, with some patching up, I was able to continue the holiday. Back home I cheaply repaired my fairings:

but the scratches on my bella have been a thorn in my eye ever since.

After a long time of doubt and searching the web for fairing replacement (front, left side and rear) I decided to just try out those Chinese sets. (purists probably didn't even open this thread, so I can speak freely now :D). Hardest part was to find a set which would match my pearl white tank. I came up with this one:

After some searching and comparing I pretty much concluded that all aftermarket sets are just a big guess and most probably they all come from China one way or the other.

So I picked the cheapest one I could find. Which happened to be this one. Shipping costs are included. Import duties excluded. I see the price has slightly raised, as I payed €290,- (about $320,-)

After asking if he could customize this design (848 instead of 1098S decals and some other changes) he answered with:
My friends, we can do this!
I ordered and paid for the set and exactly 7 days later (just as promised) they were shipped. I asked for some photo's before shipping, but I didn't get those.

10 days later the box arrived (here in The Netherlands).

All the parts are there. Small impression:

I must say, I'm surprised about the initial looks. Was a little sceptic about the decal changes I asked for, but they look great. Only thing they didn't customize was the front wheel fender, delivered in black allthough I asked for red. All parts seem to have been injection molded just as advertised. No glued parts (except for the duo seat cover of course).

So, first impression: good! But I'm not yet cheering. Next weekend I will try to install them on my bike and I'm bracing myself for the worst :D

I held the windscreen in place on the front fairing and that seems not to fit at all. Wonder if I will get that to fit when installing it on the bike.

To be continued.....

(oh, and did I mention that, when opening the box, I was welkomed by a nice Bubble Gum odor)

Looks great!! :yo:

Fits excelent with the tank!

Found a solution yet for the rear seat cover?

Mine opens pretty damn difficult. Should find a solid spring for it I guess (don't want to tamper with the original parts ;)).
Haha I never got to use mine. They mounted the notch on the wrong side. I broke it off and could try to ABS plastic weld it back but I have a red seat cowl that looks pretty good so I've kept that on.

I did not get to futz with mine this weekend as we had to put our kitty down:(.

Mine lines up but the lock will not hold it. It will vibrate itself loose after a minute. I might just get some Velcro and see if that will hold it closed. :yo:

I'm a cat person so that is really sad. My condolences...

Fixed the seat. Took the spring off and removed the rubber pad thing off of the cowl. Fits pretty good.

200 mile update. Need more heat shielding. My Termi exhaust is going to melt the plastic by the kickstand (I do have a heat shield in that area as well). I started to smell burning today during a lot of stop and go traffic. No smell prior during spirited ridding.

I used heat wrap on my entire exhaust, secured with hose clamps, and reflective heat shielding provided with my fairings on the belly fairings. Haven't had any melting.

I took a closer look and there is a metal bracket coming off the header that is resting on the heat wrap.

I'm ordering some header wrap today. Hopefully this will help this particular area.
Make sure you have that little rubber spacer installed! You will fry your lower without it...I found this out the hard way. I melted mine in several places.

No rubber spacer on mine.

Mine are Arashi... I love them... I was going to get a sent for my 1098S but I find the woodcraft's for the same price as the chinese with a little rash on the shifter peddal.. Woodcraft are great!

Minor update on the fairing swap subject

I won an ebay auction on a never used 848 Corse tank, which turned my bike from this:

into this:

So that brings my little fairing swap project to an end

For those interested... Approximate expenses summary:
Chinese Fairing set: ± $300,-
Heat protective foil: ± $40,-
Tank (2nd hand): ± $250,- (bit of a Lucky find though)

Good job. The bike looks great and the cost nice and low. The Chinese manufacturers have really upped their game.

I received and test fitted my RSV4 bodywork last night. All fits great but do need to ream some holes to fit Dzus fasteners but that's minor. Had some minor issues with them not getting the paint quite right but they re-did it till I was happy. Total cost was $527Can shipped to my door. The quality of the plastic used has come a long way. It's more flexible and injection moulded and stronger tabs etc etc.

Pretty strange there is so much quality difference with all these suppliers.

While ago a friend of mine ordered an aftermarket fairing set on ebay for his 2010 GSXR and he had no ploblems whatsoever with fitment or paint.

Guess this calls out for a vendor blacklist... Or maybe less negative, a whitelist..

A list has been opted on several forums, though no one has ever made such a list.

But it definitely would but nice to have some kind of feedback on resellers of after market fairings.
Hi everyone I’m now in the same boat, as I need to get new fairings for my ‘13 848 EVO. What’s up with Ali Express incredible-looking fairing kits?? The xerox kit looks HOTT. But, do they fit?? I was at the most reputable Ducati shop yesterday, the owner (ex-racer in Japan), said many of his customers get the Chinese cowlings but they do need customizing to fit properly 🙃. So, do they fit or what?? Man they look gorgeous and price is so reasonable. Thank you!!
Ahh, I see! The fairings usually need customizing to fit, got it👍🏽
