I only get to ride about every 2-3 weeks and it seems every time I ride I have to reset my clock on the console. I have a battery tender so I know the battery is not the problem. Anyone else have this going on? Doesn't seem to be a big problem, just annoying. Or is it a problem?

Odd that is does it with a batt tender, its summer here so I cant comment on the Duc but untill I got a batt tender my Busa would do that in winter when it was below freezing.
The only thing I can think of is maybe your batt is on the way out. If its faulty/weak the batt tender may not help.
Does it crank strongly? If so, I'm stumped.

Sorry I cant be more helpful

I remember hearing about loose connections at the battery terminals before from the factory, have you checked them?

Terminals are tight and cranks fine. Could plugging in the battery tender send a spike through the system? I only have 425 miles so I can't imagine the battery is bad already, but I'll have the dealer check at the 600 mile service.

When does the clock reset, after it is sitting for sometime or when you turn the key?

Can't tell b/c I have to turn the key on for the clock to show. Or is there a way to see the clock without turning the key?

Plugging in the batt tender should not cause problems. They are a low current device and your batt will act like a big capasitor and soak up any transients.I've used batts in the past as a form of filter for delicate sensors on unstable power supplies.CheersRoss

Nah... I guess you are right. I was thinking of my Honda.

...but, let me ask you this.

Is it always the same time when you turn the key? If the clock is resetting when you turn the key, it should always be the same time, if not, then it is happening at some point when the bike is sitting. See what I am saying?

Casmat, check to make sure your battery tender is working correctly. Maybe borrow someone else's and see if there's a diff. Does your bike crank for a while before it catches? My clock reset itself when I didn't ride it for 15 days. The batter was probably a bit low and the bike cranked for a while. I took off at 7am and time warped into 12:00 by the time I reached my first intersection. Based on the theory of general relativity, does that mean that I traveled close to the speed of light? Cool

Rosco, using a battery as a filter/buffer; very creative.

I think it may be a faulty tender. I switched it out with another and seems to be holding the time. We'll see if this holds over the next few days.

I just don't understand how it can have enough juice to start that big lump, but not enough to run the clock. Anybody?

After ~2 weeks, clock is holding the right time. Maybe it was something I was doing or a loose connection. I don't get it, but it seems to work fine now.

I never figured out what was causing the quirk. It has held the right time for about a month now. I wish I knew.
