[Hurricane Racing]

When my bike is cold the tach wont move unless reved up to 5k Rpm. But when the bike is hot its spot on. WTF? how do I fix this?

I'm guessing the internals have warped over time and a bit of heat straightens things out. Aside from a new dash, it's just your bikes character.

It does have about 23k mi, but still pulls strong. and I dident think it was a cable tach? its a 02 998

It sounds like an internal mechanical problem with the tach rather than an electrical problem.

More than likely the face of the gauge might have distorted. I used to install gauge faces in cars and every once in a while the face adhesive would let go slightly and cause a slight wave in the dash right near a gauge needle and it would bind there. When the dash heated up from the lights in it, the face would smooth and would work normally. Turn off car and dash cools down.....same thing next time the car was started.

I guess its a good thing I know what RPM im at by lissing to the motor. (most of my custom bikes have no dash no gauges)

Check the wire connections on the back of the tach/circuit board.
