I can't believe that piston made it out of the factory looking like that. That's too glaring of an imperfection.

On the other hand, it does look like a manufacture defect. What are the people at Ducati saying?

Looks like bad porosity in that piston, something has changed with quality control since the 999's, everything since has just been churned out & dealt with afterwards, kinda like car company's

Typical Italian quality control, I think they make castings designed porous enough to strain pasta. In 12 yrs in the dealer with Benz I found one porous casting, a buddy of mine worked in a ferrari and Maserati shop and it was a monthly occurrence
