New member, have a question that Google nor Search can answer.

I've never placed a deposit on a bike/car, as I've always owned 2nd-hand vehicles, so my question is:

When you guys say "I went and put my deposit down on...", how much was said deposit? What's the minimum amount? When your there and placing your 'order' do they go over the financing and all that good stuff? Is there any required information? Basicly, how does the whole process go down?

I just start saving for a 1098S (about $1K/month) and would like to know how it works so I know when I should put $ down. I'd almost like to save the whole MSRP, pay $15K down and finance the rest, but that seems like forever.

Either way, knowing how the Deposit works will help me decide on how long I save and wait for. I no longer have my 996S (R.I.P. 1+ year) so the wait is killing me! Any info would be great!

well, you basially will put a small percentage down merely to place yourself in cue/line for the next Red/Tricolore, etc. You are merely paying for the right to buy a 1098. Financing or credit checks are not part of this overture and the waiting and anticipating begins. The deposit is fully refundable or can be applied to the purchase of your 1098. The deposit will be set by your respective dealer, if you haven't put your deposit on a 1098, do so immediately...the sooner the better and the sooner your riding the bike you'll cherish.

deposit amount

996,

I put down a $500.00 dollar deposit. I made sure the deposit was refundable before I left it. I recommend you do the same. If you don't agree to this before hand, it's more likely a dealer might try and keep your deposit if you subsequently back out.

DNA probably has a policy about the minimum deposit they'll accept before they'll order a bike for a buyer, but the law doesn't set any minimum. If you can get a dealer to order you a 1098 with a $5.00 dollar deposit, than you've got a deposit.

I started with $500. Then went back in a couple months later and added $5,000. Then last week gave another $1500. Next month I'll add another $2,800. I should have the bike paid off by end of Oct. with no finance charges!

Thanks for the replies everyone! The information is exactly what I was looking for, and will be very useful when the time comes to make my deposit. skydivindad is doing what I want to do, taking nice chunks off the MSRP by adding to his deposit. I'd like to add $1K/month to it, should everything go as planned.

mrinflux, I've been told by a few people to check with the dealer about the deposit being refundable. Should an emergency come up, knowing that I can pull my deposit is a nice luxury. And tbh, I won't place a deposit unless it's under those conditions.

I can't wait to make that trip down to the dealer, but I'm a good 12 months off. Anyone have a time machine? This is going to be one of the longest years of my life :)

I was only asked to put down $100 for my 1098 and they told me I could get the money back at anytime, even took a credit card.

Why not just put down the $500 deposit and put the $1K/month in the bank? You can at least earn a little interest—instead of the dealer earning it with your money—and when the time comes, pay cash for the bike. That way, if he becomes a dick about you backing out he can only keep your $500…

That’s what I’m doing anyway. And I hope for not much longer!!! :D
