I'm horrible with change. It takes a while for it to grow on me.
So I just installed the 1098R tail and rear subframe. I love the way that looked.
I went to do a front number plate to match it. I didn't want to copy the 1098R front as it looks a tad dated and I wanted something more modern- similar to the 1199R

So here's how it came out:

looks nice....BUT... sorry always a but.. But I can't get around the aluminium colour on the tank it doesn't really match(yeah I'm that guy). I am not hatin either cause I was just dealing with the same thing

And the AL colour just bothered me.

I decided on a lexus is300 (graphite gray pearl) for the tank its getting painted right now by a buddy.
I will post pics in a day or 2 once I get back and installed.

The 1098 number plate looks the way it does because it works. Your paint flows well with the outer lines of the bike but IMO it looks a bit narrow in comparison to the beefy outline of the nose and the much wider stripes on the tail. Just my opinion, no hate. Those mirrors are nice, btw.

If I were you I'd consider taping off at least some of the tank before laying down the base coat, then removing the tape before the clear. Show off that aluminum!

Looks good but I would consider repainting the tail to match the new nose. The thick white "number plates" on the rear look too big now. Maybe a gold and white SP stripe on the tank flanked by the bare aluminum?

The tail is a genuine 1098r tail. That's why I didn't want to mess with it

I think I might redo the front or maybe even just leave it all red
You could also grab another tail from someone's part-out and paint it to match the small lines on the front.:conveyer:

a year after purchasing my 1198 new (in red) I got an aluminum tank and always wanted a white bike so I went this route:

had a high school friend who has his own shop color match the bare tank and leave strips similar to the SP

Ok I got my DP tank back, again I went with a lexus graphite gray pearl. I was also going to do the SP decal peel. But after looking at them I really didn't like how it stops half way down the tank. sxlova07 covered his up with a carbon tank grip. which is what I would have done as well but decided on a solid colour.

sxlova07 nice bike!. don't see too many that go from red to white. is that a ducati arctic white?
its a little whiter than ducati's arctic white (friend had a artic white 1198 and we noticed the difference). yeah I'm in the middle of changing the colors again...going with a black xerox theme. Also than tank stripe since its custom goes all the way to the bottom of the tank, only have the have the tank protector for ummmmm....protection :)
