Well I will let you guys check it out but my question is... I see that the race kit comes with Termi slip on's but is the headers 70mm or do we have to buy that??????????
RACING KIT
The 1098 R comes with a race kit (intended strictly for track use only) which boosts power output from 180 to approximately 186hp. The kit consists of a 102dB carbon fibre slip-on muffler kit by Termignoni and a dedicated ECU. The ECU not only has reconfigured mapping to suit the racing mufflers, but also initiates the system dialogue that controls the DTC (Ducati Traction Control) system. The 1098 R is the first ever production bike to be fitted with a true competition-level traction control.

Nighttrain,

For the USA market, the "R" will come with a dealer installed Full Termignoni exhaust. Additionally, the "R" will have carbon fiber cans and a racing ECU unique to the "R" model. You won't have to buy anything, (ok, I'm not sure about the umbrella girl!)

I remember when (and we're not talking too long ago) twins that produced over 125HP were considered CRAZY radical motors, designed strictly for race use. Now we have em pushing close to 200, with "street" units in the 180HP range! To many (mostly the inline 4 crews) that may not sound like a big deal or impressive numbers, but for the true dedicated gear heads whom have had hands on experience building and working with twins, it truly is a remarkable achievement! We're talking about two "little" pistons here people cranking out close to 200 ponies! Maybe it's just me, but I'm still amazed...

Yes amazing indeed Jonathan. Makes me wonder if there is any 'half' equivalents in the single cylinder big bore thumper world putting out 90+ odd hp? Not too many I'm guessing.
A little bit longer than 'not too long ago', I remember a huge hullaballo, song and dance when the first ever production bike broke the 100hp mark. From memory it was a...cough cough....Suzuki....cough...GSXR750. Sounded absolutley insane at the time and fast forward to today.... everyones doin' it. Hell even the old BMW boxer motors are now pumpin out well over 100hp. Now that's some strange shit!
What is also amazing is how they have managed to keep reliability and longevity firmly in the mix. Even a few years(couple) back when the 999 of Bayliss had basically run out of development options and could go no further, it was making around 190+ hp. But it was highly stressed and never lasted very long. I think they had to replace most things in the heads after every race and then after every second I think they had to replace the crank, rods and pistons etc.
Yeah so considering these new motors have an even bigger slug & giving that much hp and haven't compromised reliability and operability for Joe average on the street, they have done amazingly well for a little ol twin from the back blocks of Italy. But then again I'm biased.

With the most recent displacement advantage, and what are the rods made of again (on the R)?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it.
