Has anybody installed the dp carbon gas cap?
1. the holes do not line up to screw in with out stripping tank, i dont think i should haver to enlarge the carbon holes after paying over $200.00.
2. what do you do with the vent tube?
3. when test fitting it looks quite a bit smaller than the tank opening leaving what I would call an unsightly gap.
anybody have the same issues? maybe I got a bad one.

Do you have any photos?? From my past experiences, DP products normally fit very well. I'll be interested in how you get on with this, as I was looking to buy the very same fuel cap.

I have had one on order for 4 months, they seem impossible to obtain. My dealer told me that they had problems with them which has meant a massive backlogue along with loads of the carbon (Air tubes, seat panels)
Hope it is not crap after waing so long and at that price or it will be going straight back.

Photos please.

Does it look anything like this....

That's the Motowheels twist off CF unit on my girl's Monster.

1. As for the holes, they should line up pretty good, well at least the Motowheels unit we got did...
2. The vent tube you slide into the vent hole under the cap (twd the rear seat of the opening). You push it in, but be sure you don't crimp it shut.
3. The Moto piece was, as you can see, almost a perfect fit. There's a very small gap between it and the opening/housing.

Here's the billet twist off cap on my 1098. Fit and finish is near perfect. No gaps, and it bolted on without any problems...

Here are the pictures, I just set it in and hand tightened the screws.
the solo screw is fine and the right side is ok but you can see the left is at a slight angle and will not line up. pictures dont show the gap so well, you can see where you see the aluminum underneath.

Ahhhh... OK... It may just be that you have a "bad piece". Not bad as in ugly, just bad as in doesn't fit right. If the bolt is just slightly off, you can always dremel the CF out a bit. I know that's the last thing you want to do to a brand new DP part, but it may just fix it. The first thing I would do is try and exchange it for another. If you see they're all having similar problems or are hard to get a hold of, then you may want to consider the dremel option.

Last but not least, Is there anything underneath the CF? I see that bolts are counter sunk, before you dremel, be certain they're going to sit properly now that you're going to offset the hole a bit. I think it'll work if you just enlarge the CF holes a bit.

I could enlarge the hole but think the countersunk screw will sit off in the hole, this doesnt concern me as much as the gap between the tank that looks worse.
I am going to try and exchange and see if it is a common problem.
