Just got back from my trip to the Dragon. That ride is no longer worth it. The bad news is that there are cops everywhere on the 11.2 miles. The good news is that we didn't see a single cop anywhere else within 250 miles!! The roads down there are not to be believed! The 1098 was a DREAM!

I posted a thread a few weeks ago and a guy "Blavernia" replied. "Brian" lives down there and said he was happy to show me and my buddies some good roads to ride on. WELL, let me tell you. Brian wasn't kidding! He took us out for a 250 mile ride that was nothing short of FANTASTIC!!! Rolling, long, consitant curves....one after another. 50, 60, 70, 80 miles an hour. Curve after curve. Perfect roads, perfect weather, perfect day!

Brian, thanks for sharing your routes with me, Kyle and Tim. Riding that RZ is a HOOT, right? The MV Agusta was outstanding and I hope you enjoyed the ride on the 1098. The three of us are talking about a spring trip! We'll let you know.

PeeWee,

Great News!!! I am going to the dragon for a full week later this month with a friend of mine who also rides a Duc. I am hoping to hook up with Brian for some fun rides. Thanks for the report.

Brian knows the roads and is a REALLY good rider. He said he toned it down a bit for us. He obviously knows EVERY turn. It was a blast riding directly behind him as I figured "If he can make the turn at this speed, then so can I"

Our favorite road was the Cherohala Skyway! The most consistant, continuos curves I've ever ridin. Went back there everyday, several times.

Send me a PM and I'll send you pics if you want.

It's been my opinion for years the Deal's Gap is WAAAYYYY over-rated, and the roads within a 100-150 mile radius from the Dragon are FAR better than the Dragon itself! I've been meaning to do the Cherohala Skyway ride for some time....perhaps this weekend when I'm home!

That's really funny. Brian never tones it down for anybody. He, myself and another MV guy (DYLJim) ride together frequently and call these roads home. We are lucky guys.

Come back and visit as much as you can...but, the Dragon is a waste of time these days. Too many other great ones to ride...

Peewee,

PM sent. Thanks I called Brian yesterday and left him a message. Even if he doesn't have the time to go riding I would love to know which roads other than the Dragon are fun. Talk to you soon and thanks for the post.

That can be a critical error, especially following a better rider. Don't ever do that or you'll just end up a story.

Yeah.....NO.

Wouldn't follow someone off a bridge either. I meant that after watching him ride for a while I could see how he was taking curves and how my ability compared to his and was comfortable with the pace he was setting. Therefore, unless my spidey sense tingled, I used his entrance into a curve as a gage and made my entry pretty much the same. WAY better than going it alone for the first few times.

Great to have a guide no matter how you slice it!

Brian...

Just heard on another forum from a buddy that an MV guy is in the hospital with blood clots in his legs. The only MV guy he knows is Brian. I'll follow-up tomorrow and let you guys know if it's him and the status.

The guy doesn't need any more shit happening in his life right now!

That's obvious. Corner entry speed isn't obvious. All I'm saying is that is one of the most common reasons for crashing around here (north Georgia mountains). Six guys will go riding and you'll hear about one taking a dive trying to keep the pace of the others.

Glad you had fun and had no incidents. And yes, having a good guide can make or break a trip. Seems every weekend around here, at least one guy goes down doing the exact same thing the guy the weekend before did- trying to keep pace with someone else. It's easy to get caught up in, especially when you're on a bike with more motor. Ego sometimes dictates that the bigger bike ought to be faster, even in the corners.

I just tried calling Brain, but could not get a hold of him. If the above is true than I wish him well and hope he gets better soon.

Talked to Vickkie yesterday and he's doing better...pain has subsided. He still wasn't taking calls...don't know why...didn't ask. They were hoping that he would get out of the hospital yesterday but it was looking like it would be a couple more days.

If I learn any more, I'll let y'all know.

Hey all! Yes, it was me in the hospital. I had a blood clot in my leg that traveled into my right and left lungs! I was hospitalized the most part of this week.. Sorry, I didn't really get to talk to anyone and as you can imagine was in quite a bit of pain. Bilateraly hemotoma or somethingt like that with lots of clots in both lungs and leg.

I'm going be fine, but no ri8ding for a while since I'm in blood thinners like crazy now. Can't even really type.

Very glad PeeWee and his crew got a good ride in. Anyone else that left a message, I'll try to return calls As soon as I'm up to it, but please give me time.

Thanks for all the support. I can't believe the kind of year I'm having!

...Now I'm off to go give my self shots of blood thinner in the abdomen before bed. At least I'll be sleeping in my bed tonight.

Enjoyed the ride immensely.

Get better Bud

Brian:

My 2006 SUCKED!! My 2007 has been one of the BEST years of my life! Things have a way of balancing out. Hang in there and don't mess with this thing.

Kyle and I were talking the other day and he said "the first 20 minutes riding in NC was worth the 28 hours we spent in the truck on the round trip"!!!

Hey, we will be back next year and Tim will be on his new GSXR 600 that he picked up yesterday!! No more breathing 2 stroke exhaust!! I think that shit has taken a couple of years off my life.

Take care of yourself and keep in touch.

Blavenia,

Hope your doing o.k. Never like hearing about anyone getting hurt while riding. Stuff happens sometimes in our sport. Get some rest, heal up well, and hope your out riding when your body heals.

Take care of yourself.
