Well I just completed my DZUS fastener install on my Tricolore. It was pretty straight forward and a simple process. I changed the 12- 6 ea side Upper side panel fasteners and the 3 under the nose cone fasteners to the 1/4 turn, 4 mm allen head DZUS fasteners.

I had previously changed the 2 piece belly pan set up to the DP- plastic 1 piece solid belly pan. This also allowed me to change out the 8- 4 ea mounting fasteners for this as well.

In total I changed out 23 fasteners. It now takes me less than 5 minutes to remove the entire side fairing's and belly pan where prior to this Mod it took about 30 to 40 minutes.

I purchased all of the parts from my local Ducati dealer for around $200.

Pin- 85040501A
Quick Fitting- 85040491A

I needed a minimal of tools: Drill with 9/32" bit, 3 and 4 mm allen wrench, rat tail file. As I mentioned earlier it was a pretty simple process and did not take a lot of time to complete.

Here are a few pictures.

DZUS fastener install

Jason;

Good morning. You have to enlarge the 3 top holes for each side panel. I also drilled the 2 frame tabe on each side however; in hind site it would have been better to just enlarge them with either a rat tail file or a Dremel tool.

Hope this helps.

Hmmmm… A Dremel? How so?

I am guessing that you did not use the tool free ones due to fitting issues?

How much drilling is involved?

Not much. You have to hog out the standard holes a little bit. I used a typical 1/4 inch electric hand drill. I painted the holes in the frame to keep future rust at bay. You can adjust the clips with a locking pliers to gain a better fit with the pins.

Sorry if this was covered in a previous post, but you chose not to change the fasteners between the upper and lower fairings? Any reason why?

I'm guessing that when he takes one side off, he keeps the upper and lowers together as one unit. That's what I would do.
Right. The uppers and lowers stay together. There are three screws/well nuts on each side that still remain. One is under the front and two are indented on the side. Because of where they are situated they cannot be dealt with using Dzus fittings. I tried a couple of ideas but came to the conclusion it was best to leave them alone.

Makes sense. Thanks.

Ok, I see so when you split the sides you split it underneath and remove the side fairing with half of the belly pan then?

Can you post or PM me where you got the fasteners, how many I need, what length and how much they were please?

Thanks in advance!

Jason

ps. So no clearance problems then at all up top when removing or folding down the handles, looks to be a real tight fit.
