Are you using 64 bit or 32 vista ? There are a lot of driver issues with 64 and 32 having its fair share as well. Maybe when service pack 1,092 comes out it will take care of most of them. If you wanted to run both OS on the same hard drive ( XP and Vista ) you could get partition magic and make separate partitions for both OS. At the boot it will ask if you want to start vista or an earlier version of windows ( xp ).

Also are you plugging it into a USB hub or directly into the computer ? USB hubs are usually under powered making some data loss, maybe a problem.

Have you gone to http://www.prosa.com/dda yet? Give it a try, you will have to sign up for a user name and password but they have a trouble shooter on line along with program updates and some other information.

For what it's worth, with my Vista Premium lap top with the same error you had, they suggested that I update the firmware on my DDA but that the performance would not be the same.. Since I have several computers I tried it three other computers (all XP) and it worked fine on 2 of the 3 (hmm)

The documentation for the software sucks... I work with computers all the time and the DDA is not entirely intuitive.

I dual boot my laptop and the DDA works fine on XP SP2, but I get that same error as you do with Vista.
They do have a firmaware upgrade for the DDA the is supposed to make it work with Vista.
I got it from: http://www.prosa.com/DDAWebSupport/index.do

But even after the upgrade, I still cannot get the DDA to work on two different Vista laptops.
I have been trying to work with Prosa support for the past two weeks with no luck and they have not responded lately.

This is an old post, but I just bought a DDA for my 696 and the latest software is 2.0.5 which works fine in Windows 7 64-bit (or at least it loads).

However, the DDA itself will not install properly because W7 64-bit needs digitally signed drivers. I cannot figure out a way to permanently bitch slap W7 and force it to run the non-signed driver, I have to press F8 and disable the enforcement every single time.

any ideas or workarounds besides tossing the DDA in the garbage, or running an XP laptop?

No work around for 64bit Win7 until Prosa provides digitally signed driver. Which if they haven't by now ,will provably be never. Microsoft has not provided internal switches in windows to disable because it charges licensing fees for providing signatures. F8 and disable driver signing is the only way right now.

I found a permanent fix. I just downloaded the lastest libusb-32 drivers for 64-bit processors and used those files instead of the ones provided by Prosa. It seems to work even though they are unsigned.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb-win32/files/libusb-win32-releases/

I grabbed 1.2.4.0 and dug up the drivers in the amd64 folder, and overwrote the ones that were installed.

No DDA does not work on the Mac. I borrowed a older XP laptop and tried to flash the firmware per the instructions at http://dda.prosa.com. It failed during the upgrade and now my DDA device is not recognizeable (before it was). Looks like I will need to take it to the dealer and see if I can get a replacement (hopefully with the latest firmware (1.33?).
