I purchased a blank key and had it cut for a previous Duc I had. I am trying to find another blank like the one pictured. The part # I have for this is 98802001010. Also will it work for the 1098's? Anyone with info?

Sorry the pictures are so big. Don't know how to shrink them.

Nope, unless it has the computer chip in there. Before the 1098, it does not use the computer chip.

I didn't relize we had a computer chip in the 1098 key. Thanks. Does that have something to do with the red light blinking on the bike(shift light) when the bike is parked without the key in?

Nope, the light is just for show. So people will think that you have an alarm system on your bike. You will notice that if you do not ride your bike for a few days, the blinking light will go off to save battery.

Think of it as the electronic starter in the new Corvetts and Lexus.
The key has a chip on it that it will register with the bike when it is near the ignition. On the cars the range is a lot longer.

For example, when they delivered my bike. I had both of the keys on the key chain. I tried to start my bike and it would not start because it didn't know which key to register.

The blinking light on the dash indicates that there is an immobilizer built into the electronics of the bike. The key has a chip in it that activates a proximity sensor in the form of a ring around the ignition assembly.

Ducatis without the proximity sensor do not have a blinking light and chip in the key and can use regular key blanks. If you are looking for non-chip options check this one out:
