Hey everyone! Anyone know how much the Ducati dealer tuning tool is and where to purchase one? Would be nice to be able to tune my own bike!
I'm not quite sure as to how much it is, but I don't think it's cheap enough for just your average joe to throw one in his or her tool box.

Example, GM uses a hand held device they call the Tech II. It's a full function dealer type scan tool, and new they'll set ya back around $3K. These are different from your typical $100-$300 scan tools in that they often feature many more functions and ability to change vehicle ECU parameters.

Although I havent seen the Ducati tool in person, I'm certain the Ducati tool is something similar, and I'm almost possitive it'll be upwards of several thousands $$$.

Last but not least, in some cases, these usually are not available for sale to the general public. You sometimes have to jump through some hoops, or know some "people" to get a hold of one, and even then, you may end up paying a little premium for one.

Unless your dealer is grossly incompetent I would strongly urge you not to get into the "tune it myself" rat's nest. I mean no one any offense but unless you REALLY know what you're doing you'll do more harm than good. The crescent wrench and a screwdriver days are over. Unless you're running a carb and basic ignition anyway. Leave it alone.

Really Cloud? Is it that complicated? I'm hoping to get a shop manual etc etc. I really love to know how to do these things. i'll probably get the work done at the dealer, but I also love to know how this stuff works!

I, like you, want to know everything I can about this bike. I also want to learn how to do whatever is required to keep it sweet along with all the tools and techno gadgets needed to do it. I am a firm believer in doing it myself. I don't mean to preach but there comes a point when I have to say to myself "don't screw with that". And it's really hard for me to do that. Really hard. Because I know if I keep at it I'll get it. But alot of time, money, and ruined parts are the price. Techno research has a wonderful sounding piece of software that will allow one to do what you and I and alot of others would like. It costs 895.00. I want that CD so bad I can taste it. But I know that if I go meggering around in there the chances of messing it up are too great without some proper training.
So that is one area I will leave to the dealer and hope like hell he knows his stuff. If he doesn't then I guess I'll have to revisit my line of thought after all.
That's all I meant to say and it only applies to me. At the moment, and of course subject to change at any time.

The Ducati Diagnostic System that the dealer uses is about $8000.00. I'm not kidding either - I wanted to purchase one until I heard that price tag. The TechnoResearch hardware and CD will run you $195 as mentioned above. You don't have to purchase the $895 one, you only need the single motorcycle software and adapter. I've already emailed TechnoResearch and they confirmed that it is available for the 1098.
