I have fitted an HID kit to my 2002 998 and found that if the bike stalled, sometimes the low beam would not restart unless I turned the bike all the way off and then back on. I picked up a Euro light switch on Ebay and fitted it last night. I am not 100% sure of how it is supposed to operate and was wondering if anyone else had done the same mod. I simply removed the US switch and swapped it with the Euro switch. I unplugged the US connector and plugged in the Euro connector in its place. In the bottom switch setting only the small driving lights and the tail lights are on. In the middle switch position the low beam comes on. In the top position the high beam comes on and the low beam stays on. The red button for the high beam does not seem to do anything. The flash to pass switch will cut the high beam on while it is held and the switch is in the middle position. I am thinking someone may have modified this switch as the red high beam switch does not do anything. I would be interested in feedback from anyone else that has one of these switches on how yours works.
Thanks,

Late to the game but here are pics for modding the euro headlight switch on the 998. I had the same prob you have, cranking the starter would often lower system volts to the point the HID wouldn't kick off and start.

As the HID's pull less current you can mod the switch so both bulbs work when switched on high.
Run a bit of wire as shown and solder it in. Done deal.
