Hey guys,
First I want to say hello to everybody here, just subscribed today. Been a proud owner of a Ducati streefighter 1098S for 2 years.
I can't see myself riding anything else..

I am having my exhaust pipes wrapped with exhaust tape to reduce heat (and add to the coolness factor IMO).
I currently have stock exhaust pipes and slip-ons but looking to buy a Termignoni slip-on kit.
Should I be worried about the temperature changes that will happen in my exhaust system with the tape on ?

Hi Zarni,

Welcome! The only time you have to worry about wrapping an exhaust is if it's Titanium. Titanium has a tendency to crack over time when wrapped.

Since you won't have Ti headers or mid-pipes, you would be in the clear.

Good luck. If you haven't already, take a look at some other exhaust options, like the Arrows. Beautiful welds, work very well with the SF1098 motor and you can save a bundle of money to buy other toys. Just have your stock ECU reflashed.

I wrapped the Termi system on my Sport 1000 with black Thermotech wrap, then sprayed it with the black Thermotech high temp paint. It is an easy do-it-yourself job. However, my issue with it was that since the front cylinder is exposed on the Sport 1000, with no fairing protection, little rocks eventually shredded the wrap on the front bend of the exhaust. It eventually looked kind of ghetto IMHO. It definitely needed to be re-done and that was like 6-8 months of use. Other than that I really liked the look and it was definitely cooler for me.

Another option is ceramic coating the pipes.

The wraps protect against heat better than ceramic coating does. I've had the pleasure of having tried both back to back and while I like the finishes available for the ceramics, the wrap worked better. I use the Ti wraps as they are impregnated with epoxy to seal them and keep them looking new.

It depends on how wide the wrap is. You need a little bit of overlap, but you don't want a ton. So the wider the wrap, the less length you need, but it can be more of a PITA to make the bends, and also you may or may not like the visual look of the wider wrap. I actually dont know the answer, but I know I bought a 2 pack of 2" roll x 50' and both my Sport 1000 and my buddies 08 Hypermotard had enough each with a bit extra.

One role is enough to wrap your exhaust system. Average about 50% overlap when wrapping.

Also a good idea to wear gloves on the install. The material does a number on your skin if exposed for long periods of time.

I have used both in the past, and I will stick to ceramic coating... once I can find a good coater (nothing but issues with Jet-Hot)

The wrap sucks to install, it sucks to keep in place, it sucks when it is burning in once you have it installed, and it does a lovely number on carbon steel pipes.

If you go with the wrap then here are a few tips from my own experience:
-Soak the roll in water before you install it. It helps to get it pulled very tight.
- you can use SS zipties (made specifically for the wrap), or you can safety wire it. Either option you will stab yourself with once it is installed..
- When you first fire the bike make sure you arent in a shop or something. Do it outdoors.
- the wrap discolors over time. So go with a lighter color (the white or the off white), it will look better for longer.
- def wear gloves, or long sleeves. The wrap is fiberglass. It isnt so bad to handle- until you cut it. Once its cut you will release a bunch of little fibers into the air. Those are what stuck in your skin, etc

Use the Ti wrap. No need to soak, easy on the hands and no need to coat afterwards. Looks good for a long time.
