The roads are pretty decent in the summer months. The best part is having 24 hours of daylight. At the beginning of the summer it is a bit rough due to all the gravel having been spread on the roads during the winter (salt on the roads attracts moose). We even have a track (of sorts) up here called tanacross. It is actually an airfield that gets coned up with corners (approximately 44 turns in 3.5 miles) and is an absolute blast. Check it out at www.akroadracing.com As for moose hunting, I have actually had them walk through my yard...although you aren't supposed to shoot them when this happens.
