PSA...When installing the Factory Pro shift kit, be careful not to let the detent arm slip off the star gear and smack into the engine case.

My bearing shell cracked in half when that happened.

That is the bad news....the good news...the guys at Factory are awesome and sent me another detent arm FOR FREE, even though it WAS MY FAULT! They even overnighted it (at my expense).

Wow! I bet you said a few words when that happened.

I didn't have that problem fitting mine. My issue was around removing the old one, due to the crazy Loctite originally employed.

Apparently they changed that since my ('07) model.

But yes - the spring is stronger than the original, and needs some care during fitting.

But the kit is definitely worth it. Mine seems to flick through the gears better now. Easier, and more positive.

Sun's come out here, after some pretty serious weather the last few days, so I'm going to get out for a ride shortly.

I gotta chime in here, too. This is a great upgrade. I went from what seemed like several false neutrals on the track to Zero! Definitely a confidence booster and the shifting feels so much more solid. Great product! Glad to hear that Marc took care of you!

I was a little upset. I've been working on my zen lately so I was just like, oh well, let's call them on Monday and see what they say.

I can't wait to see how this changes the shifting of the bike.

Any special tools needed? My recently acquired '12 Pani S shifts decent now. A LOT better than my old '11 1198 did! False neutrals happened often and it was really hard to find neutral while stopped at a light. Can't say I've had the same issues with my Pani. I've caught a couple false neutrals so far but not too bad. If I don't need any special tools or anything it sounds like the shift kit is a solid investment, especially since the track season is upon me.

I have Mark's shift kit in my 1199 R. Install is much diff from 1x98 motors. But I love the positive shifts!!!!!

Kinda. You will need a torx bit to get the detent arm bolt out. And you have to completely remove the clutch and the case cover underneath it. So, if you have the clutch holding tool and an impact wrench with the correct socket (30mm maybe? I can't remember) then you shouldn't have a problem. You will also need either a gasket (motowheels.com) or gasket sealant to get the cover back on.

These items are for the 1X98 bikes, I have no idea what you'll need for a Pani.

Can you confirm the clutch doesn't have to be removed like their site says? I'm about to put it on my wish list.

Clutch does not have to be removed on the Pani. Funny thing, I went to Factory Pro web site and it has my testimonial for the kit....

Installs on the left side of the engine, not clutch side. I managed to install detent arm with out removing the shifter star.
