I have a 2008 848 and when I have the tank closed with the bike in the garage it starts to leak from the fuel drain. I understand about fuel expansion and everything else. But I am wondering if this will be a bigger problem later on?

Howdy, welcome to the forum!

So what's this "fuel drain" you talk about? It's actually illegal for modern EPA/EURO3 bikes to leak fuel onto the ground. They have something called a charcoal canister which filters out any fuel and prohibits fuel from hitting the ground. However, there are two other hoses down there, one of them is over-flow from the coolant reservoir and the other is a drain from the airbox.

So yea, could you take a picture of this phenomena?

It's called the fuel breather. I have the airbox drain, coolant over-flow and the fuel breather drain hose. I have the workshop manual downloaded but it won't let me copy and paste the picture.
Yep and that's "suppose" to go to a charcoal canister on the right side of the bike, attached to the frame.

Did you follow the line from the Y split on the bottom of the tank to the ground?

Anyway, if there is no charcoal canister on your bike, then yes if the fuel level is too high, it will leak. Because the bike leans over a lot on the stand, Ducati recommends running the fuel hight with a pretty significant gap to the top.

The Y-split is what im talking about. all the hoses on the charcoal canister are already connected. So where does the Y-split connect to?
Y split is the output of the tank and it goes to the charcoal canister. From the canister, it goes to the ground.

Its leaking from the bottom of the Y-split Line.
Your canister could be faulty, it happens.

Also, if your tank isn't full to the rim, it could be a loose hose inside the tank as well.

I'm still confused on when this happens in relationship to fuel height and how much fuel escapes, as in… is there a big puddle on the ground or just a few drops?

I'm not sure about the Y split, all the bikes USE to have it. My 848 sure did.

If that's the case, it's still pointing to over-filling of the fuel tank.

No fuel right now on the ground because I have the lid slightly open to release pressure. Perhaps I did over fill and wasn't paying attention. But there looks like there is about in inch of room from the bottom of the neck to where I have fuel in the tank. So there should be no reason its leaking since the tank isn't over filled?

From where the "Y" is supposed to be. The right hose is fat and leads to the charcoal canister. The left hose is a skinny hose that routes down the bike and is attached to the coolant over-flow. However, there is another hose on the bottom of the canister that is for fuel drain as well??
