It takes several minutes to get my 996 to start, never used to be like this. Just had the eprom, ecu, and some fuel hoses in the tank replaced. Started just fine after getting it back for a few times and now it will catch for a sec but not fire up. I have to mess with the throttle to get it to start. I can hear the pump kick on with the key. It will restart fine after I have it running and it runs just fine. However after a few hours of sitting it is the same thing again. Need help!

Especially with older bikes, the wires connecting the battery and the starter motor wiring get corroded over time. They loose the ability to deliver the high amperage starter current necessary to spin-up the engine fast enough to assure reliable starts..

Several 996 owners saw significant starting improvement by installing a Hicap replacement cable kit from Motolectric. This is a high quality product and I personally think the cost is reasonable — anyway, that's what I would use if I were you.

I am running a brand new Shorai Lithium battery, it cranks over fine or I should say the same as it always has. It seems like its a fuel issue causing it to not want to start not electrical. Not to say it isn't electrical but doesn't really seem like it.

Hi guys,
If anybody knows the approximately length of these three cables I would like to make new ones on my 996, but the bike is not here at the moment. So, I can't take my own measurements.
Thank you

These are the length of my 748 which should be the same as your 996.

Shortest is 160mm or 6½ inches
middle one is 330mm or 13 inches
Longest 500mm or 20 inches
These measurements are hole centers. You would be better a few mm on the long side rather than too short.
