Hey guys! Just bought me a used 2008 pearl white ducati 848. Always wanted one when looking at what bike to buy, as an upgrade from my ninja 250r (best learning bike ever!). Found it priced at around $7500 with only 2500 miles! Came with aftermarket exhaust, clutch and brake levers, and integrated taillight. However, only downside is that I still haven't had a chance to ride it because it's winter. Anyone know how different it feels compared to a 2007 r6r? Oh well, can't wait to get to know everyone better and be apart of this community!

It's completely different from any I4. The v-twin pulls much different and the chassis is different. Congrats on getting the fastest colour!! I also have an 08 in Pearl. Slightly more than 2500 miles though. Looks like you got a decent enough deal on it.

Congratulations. It's pretty different in my opinion as I just bought a 848 pearl white also not even 2months coming from a cbr929. Took a bit of getting used too. The seat is pretty crap but got used to it but still uncomfortable, the rear brake pedal position felt different for me but got used to it, and im still kinda getting used to the steering/cornering. I think that's about it.

Welcome to the forum bierto and congrats on the purchase!

For better or for worse, the 848 is nothing like it's Japanese brothers. It's much lazier and more relaxed to ride, which gives it an ease that you don't quite get with a screamer 600. Most of the people who own Ducati's, do so because they want something different. Inline 4's are as cookie cutter as they come, might as well own a Honda Civic or Toyota Camry. The R6 is a great bike, but it's really designed for the track, with it's screaming power delivery and high RPM rev limit. To this day I'm shocked the engines are strong enough to survive that kind of rev limit, but it goes to show you how well Yamaha thought-out the design.

[email protected] said everything else I would have… so…

Anyway, you got a great deal on the bike and we all look forward to hearing what you have to say about it on your first ride! :)

Welcome bierto, great choice on the bike. I managed to get my hands on a used 2008 848 for about what you paid for yours.

I never rode the '07, but I did own an '03 R6 for several years. As Tuned previously stated, a powerband with much more "elbow room" is something I find very useful in the city. I've only had my Duc for a few months now and to be completely honest with you, I, personally, am still trying to wrap my brain around the way these things corner. When I had my 98 Superhawk(a V-twin), I had to wrestle the thing into a corner and fight it all the way out of the turn. After I moved to the R6, the turns seemed almost telepathic. Just think about turning and the bike puts itself in the corner. The 848, to me, is right in the middle of the two. It turns in so dang fast, but then makes your shoulders and triceps prove their worth in order to keep your line. Once you find a straight stretch of asphalt, that wonderful Ducati twin doesn't care if you are a gear(or two) higher than you should be. Just open up the throttle and over 60 years of Italian engineering are perfectly dispensed from rubber to road.

I liked my R6, I really liked my Superhawk, but I love my 848.

Thanks everyone. I finally got the chance to ride the 848 yesterday while it was 41 degrees outside. She drove beautifully and I loved the extra power. Didn't have to go higher than 2nd gear. Turning is much different than my r6 a bit harder and I kept feeling like my rear tire was sliding. Probably need to wear them out a bit and get better grip. Other than that I love the ducati, just gotta get used to it. Oh and I loooove the brakes. My r6's seemed much weaker than the ducati's.

Very interesting observation...I've had my Superhawk since Honda released it in 97, and I've found it to be the most telepathic handling bike I've ever ridden or raced. Granted, I did the usual suspension upgrades at both ends that I would've done to any bike of mine, but the 'Hawk had better chassis feedback from day one than any of the Ninja 600's I've ever raced. Only the FZR400 had comparable feel to me.

I went from an '06 R6 to my 848. I thought the R6 had much more comfortable ergos as well as seat, the handling was so light and flickable and I felt like I wasn't making any power under 9k (even with my -1 +2 gearing). The Duc on the other hand, she's scolding hot to ride (just an observation, I have bad circulation so I'm perpetually cold and kinda like it), the brakes bite so much harder, the handling with the 848 is like wrestling an alligator compared to an R6 but sooo much more confidence when leaned over in a corner and of course the 848 has a much broader powerband. The biggest difference though? The 848 is not for the socially awkward, it gets attention everywhere. Just yesterday I went riding with a buddy and his GS1200 and when I came back from checking out an awesome view there was literally 8 or so people gawking around my bike...come to expect this. haha. Congrats on the purchase and ride safe!

Thanks everyone. Yeah she sure is a sexy beast. My r6 was nice too but previous owner dropped it and changed the fairings with flat white ones. Didn't look too good, but the ducati looks amazing in white.I'm just itching to ride it again when it gets nicer out. The waiting sucks!
