hi,
i just completed a move from omaha to dallas tx. i had a cover on the bike while it was being hauled in an open top uhaul trailer. i did tether down the cover a few times around with a nylon twin but the cover still flapped in the air as i travelled.

i didnt expect this to happen at all but for some reason i see some discoloration on the tank and seat fairing, essentially at high points and edges when the flapping cover must have been hitting the motorcycle.

the color doesnt seems to scratched or removed but it is blackened. i tried rubbing it by hand but it didnt budge. i havent tried anything else yet.

i would be surprised if the paint 'came off' as that seems il-logical. there should be several layers of top coat and paint till the metal should begin to show so i am not sure what is blacking is, if it just the color from the cheap cover that i used or if this is the actual black color of the underbody that is showing (hope not).

i am hoping that a simple compound polish should fix this but i havent attempted that yet.

please help, i am torn about this, the bike is otherwise in pristine condition. i have more pics but i can only upload 3.

thanks

Try clay bar first. It's your least abraisive option that takes out crud from the clearcoat.. Make sure you keep the bar lubricated with quick detailer and wax it right after as it removes the wax too. When I got my 1098, the fairings felt rough to the touch and had some blemishes. The first thing I did was remove all the fairings and wash/clay/wax them in the bathtub. All the blemishes were removed and the fairings were slippery smooth.
