I was wondering if anyone else has had battery issues after upgrading their normal headlights to HID. I am running a shorai battery and have also installed a euro spec headlight switch. I have a translogic dash installed so I can watch the volts on the battery as they fluctuate all over the place.

When I position the headlights off and the bike running the battery is at 13.8. When I have the taillight a and parking lights on the battery reads 13.5. When the headlights are turned on the battery will drop 1 whole volt and maintain there even when riding down the interstate at 70ish mph.

Is this normal? I like the HIDs but am considering removing them if there are going to be a problem

Thanks,

David

What is the stated wattage of the HID's?

Sounds about right. As long as you dont drop much lower. The Euro switch would help and it would pay to use it if idling for any length of time.

The 996 only has a 550(?) Watt alternator and these bikes weren't really designed to run loads of accessories.

Shazaam has a good table published about this somewhere.
