I recently purchased a 1098R from a gentleman who used it as a show piece in his office. The bike has never been ridden, and hasn't been started in a year. I am going to change the fluids before starting the bike, but I also want to make sure I get oil primed throughout the system/heads since it has been sitting for so long. Any recommendations on how to do so? I was hoping there's a way to give the starter a couple bumps without the motor firing. Any fuses that could make that happen? Thanks in advance for the help.

Take a look at the owners manual (you can download it online). There's a schematic on the last page. Follow the fuel pump to the fuse. Looks like Fuse #5 (20A) Injection will disable the pump.

Once you do so, you can confirm by turning the key ON and flipping the kill switch. You should not hear the fuel pump prime. At that point, just crank the motor to build up pressure.

Was he a collector or just used it as office furniture?

Just curious more than anything

Great simple solution, can't believe that didn't come to mind.

Probably some of both. He owns 8 other high end Ducati's including a 1098R Bayliss and a D16RR. He is just a Ducati fanatic that likes unmolested bikes, I can appreciate that.

Change the oil and fuel (if there's any in the tank) and start it up. If the battery is charged, I bet it'll start in a few seconds.

You can prime an engine by removing the oil pressure switch (or find a suitable oil gallery plug) and attaching a fitting there that you can fit the tip of an oil can into. You would be surprised how easy it is to pump the galleries full of oil once you have the right fitting in place. Just a few pumps and you can hear the air being expelled! Obviously, you want to use an oil can that is squeaky clean inside... It will make a little mess when you pull the fitting and reinstall the O.P. switch, but no biggie.

Thanks. I started the 1098R today, and WOW, what a beast. Didn't rev it above idle, but even at idle with the race exhaust it sounds like it wants to rip someones face off. It was raining today, but I'm dying to ride it.
