Hi all,

My 916 is stored in my garage (warmed) since 7 years and has not been started since around 7 years.

What has to be done to restart the bike without breaking anything in the engine ? Current mileage is about 20.000 Km.

Thanks.

Wow, tough. Did you do anything to the bike to prepare it for storage? If not then drain all fluids. Tank will need flushing and cleraning if there was gas in there. pipes need to be checked for degradation, wiring needs to be checked to ensure the insulation has not perished. Get some penetrating oil in the cylinders to ensure nothing will seize.
7 years is a long time. Cleverer people than me will advise you better, I'm not a technical guy but do some basic preparation. I'd be concerned that the timing belts might perish too but that could be completely wrong ( and depends on their condition when stored )
Flush adn replace all fluids is a definite. New battery almost another sure replacement.

I'd give it to a local garage and ask them to give you a service. Should not need to be a Ducati dealer.

not having removed the oil and coolant is good thing, just change before starting. good ting you removed the fuel, it turns to sludge after a few years. you might be to start it without new belts if they are in good condition, but would change them before let it run or ride it. tires are no good by now too.

I would e putting a bore scope in the spark plug holes and see how much rust is inside your barels. Also romove the cam covers and check your rockers for rust....problem with oil that sits for a long time can also turn acidic from moisture and fuel thats mixed with it during normal use. If you just rode it the stored it for that long I would also be condidering the fact that anything rubber will be suspect. Seals in brakes and clutch etc as well. Things might work now but your chances of failure will likely be quite high. If you did drain your tank all your fuel pump system seals are likely dry or perished. Check the O rings on the quick connects. Also the quick connects have a habit of going very brittle. Any fuel sitting in the fuel lines will be off so your injectors may block. After that long sitting i personally would be tearingndown a lot of the eqsy to service things for inspection. I have a 996 thats old too and it has been well looked after but its at that age where everything is starting to need TLC. These things cost mega bucks to fix now days. Piece of mind inspections is cheaper than a major failure man....
