I am considering purchasing a Hypermotard as an everyday bike. I currently own a Kawasaki Ninja 6R, and am looking for something with more style and hooligan type riding style.

Will this bike be reasonable to ride on my daily commute (15 miles each way) as well as the weekend foray's up to the mountains. Also, its a bit down on power compared to what I have been riding, will this leave me bored once the newness wears off?

Would it be better to look at an 848 or 1098?

Thanks for your input. I am looking to find out how current Hyper owners experiences have been. Please be honest.

If I had the cash, I'd add one of those. They look so fun to ride...

Ride a 1098 and HM here. Go for the HM. Much finer for commutes, and a blast on curvy mountain roads. I have no issues with the Hypermotard's power. Oh, I suppose if one is into blasting the throttle on the straights it might get a little winded as speeds go way into the triple digit realm, but for me the curves is where it is at and the HM will overdeliver here. The engine is sweet and contagious. Something about a 2v air cooled Ducati. Glorious.

I was expecting the worst after riding nothing but full fairing bikes for the last 35 years but was pleasantly suprised with my HM. Up to about 65mph you can kind of sit there without having to really hang on. I think that funky front fender/headlight combo actually splits the air! Tank range is another story. I normally expect to get 130 mi. before the light comes on. I have to plan every time because gas stations are few and far between where I ride.:banghead:

How is the tank range? Whats the windblast like on the highway? I demo the bike this summer but was limited to pretty sedate cruise along with the Ducati instructor.

gotta agree with sfarson; the HM is great around town and up in the hills. as for windblasts, i found it to be a bit bothersome at 70-80mph, and gusts were even less fun. great all around bike especially if you enjoy that type of riding position.

best success

i just made the switch from an 07 6R to a Hyper S. I love it! You will enjoy the Hyper S so much. Its so much fun to ride, looks great plus plenty of goodies. Once you adjust from a sport bike to a motard, you'll love it even more.

Hyper is awesome

Have had my Hyper for a few weeks now and I am completely happy with it. While it does lack that bigger bike grunt it makes up for it in comfort and the "fun" factor. I ride it to work as much as possible (1 way-18 miles) and ride in the mountains all day with no real complaint. I`ve ridden my friends 1098s and 848 and those things are torture racks! The feel of the Hyper is very neutral and nimble, feels like I can do anything on this bike. Buy it you wont be dissapointed!

The Hyper is amazing around town and through the mountain turns. On the highway though things change a bit. When I first enter the highway everything is good(aggressive position). Once I calm down and "try" to flow with traffic is when the wind starts blasting me. between the wind and the torque, I hold on for dear life, causing my shoulders and arms to get tired pretty quick. Sometimes I think I was more comfortable cruising on my Gixxer. But then again if I wanted to cruise I should've bought a harley. All in all, I love my Hyper but I now have an excuse to add an 848/1198 in my garage for those long rides.
