In the market for a new lid (Need Help)

Hey guys so I'm in the market for a new lid. I have a HJC CL-16 which was my beginners helmet (cheap). Its loud at almost all speeds and has a lot of drag on my head cue to it not being very aerodynamic.

I was hoping you guys could recommend a helmet for me that would fit the below parameters.

-Under 500$
-Black
-Comfortable
-Quiet
-Vents well (I know this comes with a sacrifice to the noise.

So basically I don't know what brand or helmet i should get. I'm looking at AGV, Bell, Icon (I know this is a ricer brand), and Shoei.

Let me know what you guys think.

Here are a few that i have looked into already.

My 1st choice will be HJC RPHA-10. I love mine
2nd choice will be Bell Star line up.
Thanks for the quick reply RIGS. I have a HJC now and its the much cheaper line of helmets than the RPHA-10, but im concerned that some of the things i hate about my current helmet will be in the RPHS-10 helmet. For example i HATE how the wind screen pivots. It comes out of the "quick" release sometime when im just trying to lift it up (yes even with the lock). Also its extremely loud.

How is the visor pivot on this helmet?
I'm on my second Bell RS1 (first one was damaged when I got run over by a Ford F150) has been a great helmet.

^^ Thanks. Care to elaborate on how you got ran over by a F-150?
Sure... I was riding to work three weeks ago on my CBR1000RR. Going down a 35MPH road (doing between 35-40) with a clear view up the road. Traffic in front began to slow and I did the same - slowed to about 20-25. Dude behind me was not paying attention and did not slow. Plowed into the back of me, pushed the bike about 15 feet and threw me over the bars. After a pretty cool flip I landed in the road in oncoming traffic. Fortunately the bike was stuck in the truck and oncoming traffic had time to stop. The bike needed to be pulled out of the truck with a tow truck - pic should be attached. Bike was totaled, I had some pretty good bruises, swelling, and a concussion.

I never had an issue with mine and I do change the visors quite often.
They are easy to release and to put on.
Noise wise, they are a lot quieter than my previous KBC helmets a friend of mine has Nolan and he also mention is quieter than the Nolan.
I don't wear earplugs when I ride.
It's also light weight.
Selvitz, I'm a bug fan of the AGV.. I have the horizon.. It delivers in all the areas you mentioned. Look at the reviews in revzilla.
Cianciotta, glad you made it.. The crash looks bad..have a quick recovery.

I swear by Arai and had a nasty off with an RX-7 Corsair on and can tell the tale.

The new Corsair V is out so you should be able to pick up a bargain on an RX-7.

I notice you already have a link to Revzilla which is one of the cheapest sites around. The new Corsair V is "only" 720 in pure black if you can stretch to the extra budget?

Arai Corsair V Helmet - Solid - RevZilla

Your other option is to go for the RX-Q at 530 bucks.

Arai RX-Q Helmet - Solid - RevZilla

I would advise trying different lids on.

I am an Arai fan where as others will swear by other makes, it really is down to choice and what fits you.

+1 for Arai.

Don't skimp on a solid lid. Love mine, great helmet, great company.
You can buy 2 HRC R-10's for the price of most helmets in it's class. It's a totally different helmet from the CL-16. I might buy one soon, if it fits my melon. Most of my lids have been Aria's so far.
I loved my Shoei helmet (RF-1100) and I hear good things about the 1200. Just went with the helmet group buy to snag my new Arai RX-Q lid, but I won't be using it until I make it back to the states in September. I saw that someone just posted in the thread, but I'm unsure if the group buy is still going.

I use an arai corsair v and just got my rpha-10 grafitti ...

The arai corsair v is an Insanely nice helmet that flows air so well but it is on the louder side

Haven't had a chance to try about the hjc but it feels lighter then the corsair ...feels very well made

Ok so I'm sure im going to get "bashed" for even asking this, but what does everyone think about ICON? I know its not what a Ducati rider typically gets, but the airframe in carbon fiber with the yellow visor is beautiful.

I have a friend with that helmet and he loves it .. very nice helmet .. Icon's top of the line stuff.

Also .. im not sure you can say there is a typical helmet for a ducati rider.. Ive never bought a helmet based on some status level I feel i need to maintain when I had my 1198.

I rode scorpion helmets for years .. loved every one of them. I recently stepped up to the Arai because I felt I deserved a nicer lid and then the HJC i got because I love the design .. the fit and the story behind this specific graffiti design

Get whatever helmet YOU like :)
^^ Yea I tend to feel the same way that it shouldn't matter what brand helmet. I have a yellow 748 that i think this helmet will look amazing with.
A friend has the ICON airframe line and it's loud.
Quality is top notch but loud.
yea i figured it would be loud because of all the air flow.
I love my bell rs-1. Best part is the transitions shield that self tints with light conditions.
