I originally had bought the bike like this, the rubber is melted pretty good, and some is stuck to the exhaust. On the bottom of the can you can see it got hot enough to turn the metal blue. Is that normal or did the last guy overheat the bike? As he did run track days with it. But now that I've put roughly 500 miles on it I haven't had it once go over 219 degrees Fahrenheit and it usually runs around 160-170 sometimes around 190 if I get in traffic. Also I forgot to mention, the rubber is the same way on the opposite side, but the blue from the heat isnt nearly as evident.

Those are stock pipes. They have a catalytic converter in there, that's whats making it turn blue and melt the rubber. The converter is getting super heated and retaining the heat....

Yes, it's because of the trackdays the previous owner did.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Good to know... over on the other forum everyone says it is running too lean, so I think I might just pull the plugs and check the tip to see and if it looks good I won't worry too much about it. I'm thinking about putting in an A&R Baffle kit in it anyways. Then while I got it off taking the cans and putting a few coats of gloss high heat paint just so it doesn't look so bad and putting a few new exhaust gaskets on it.

That's not really normal. The mufflers shouldn't get that hot. But then again, they are the stock ones...bike probably runs too lean anyway if the previous owner didn't flash the ECU (i.e. runs the stock fuel map).

It's not something you really have to change now if you don't want to, but this would be a good time to upgrade to an aftermarket slip-on and flash the ECU at least, or get an aftermarket ECU.

My race bike (an 848) has stock exhaust cans that have the A&R baffle kit. This along with a custom ECU re-flash made the throttle response much more crisp, the bike revs way more freely, runs cooler, sounds louder and more mean. Probably added a bit more power, but I truly don't need or care about that part.
