1st post....cool.....

So, I have an opportunity to give K&N my 1098 to have it fit for factory replacement filter. My question is after production, do you think they would be better than the performance filters I received with the full Termignoni or will it change anything...and will I have to re map it or will it stall????? I will Take them if they are better...but who knows they are fine for cars and stuff like that but my Ducati I don’t know about that

Let me know what your thoughts are??

I would think that K&N will Dyno the bike with both the filters. I would suspect they would also want the stock ones for testing. Advertising the difference between the two. So ask them to see the numbers. Also the K&N filters are cleanable and reusable.

K&N aftermarket air filters

Mark,

K&N has a long history with Ducati. They offer free flowing air filters for many of the older, (and newer) Ducs. (In fact, I run them on all my Pasos.) But your point is well made. If the replacement filter K&N makes for the 1098 is more, (or less), free flowing than the race air filter supplied with the Full Termi system, then your air/fuel mixture may be affected, potentially requiring a fuel mapping adjustment.

If your 1098 is running strong with the Full Termis and Termi-supplied air filter, (as I suspect it is!), then I'd let sleeping dogs lie.

With the K&N filters are cleanable and reusable that is cool. I just want something that will work as well or better than the stuff on the bike right now...BUT I don't want anything that will give me problems. Doesn’t the bike make minor adjustments for altitude and air fuel? I don’t have a dealer close. They did say I could get a set once the job is complete. If it runs well I will keep them on.

It is hard to believe the the K&N will out flow the factory Hi-flow. When you look through the filter and see how open the weave is and no oil ,it hard to see how the filter is going to stop any dust going through it.The K&N will be oiled and function as a high quality filter and such have a larger pressure drop.IMO.

That is so funny.

Can you show me one, only one motorcycle dyno chart from K and N??
On any bike????

Almost all Harley dyno charts with SE air filters are K&N. I would not worry so much about the free flowing intake. The mapping addresses the exhaust with a free flowing intake, The K&N will most likely work just fine. The issue is with additional air flow a lean mix, worse case it would be a little rich and not cause a problem.

I find it very hard to believe that the filter supplied with the Termi exhaust can be out flowed by anything other than a pair of open Velo stacks. K&N's are excellent filters but not any better than the race. And keep in mind that max airflow ratings only come into play at very high rpm's. Leave it be.
