I guess BT sport has a motorcycle TV show in the UK, very cool stuff.

This episode is all about our new MotoGP star Marc Marquez.

Enjoy!

Saw that the other day. Thought it was cool and a lot of fun, despite the ga-ga demeanor of the hosts. I get it, though...I was like that when I met KR. Probably worse. :D
I don't get star struck at all anymore. It bugs me when I'm at the track and people crowd the "stars" taking pictures and stuff. I was hanging with Kenny Roczen at the track recently talking about his recent trip to Colorado snow boarding and some chick came up and asked me to take a picture of them. She was totally star struck and I was like, its just Kenny Roczen, he's just a kid from Germany who happens to be a world champion. She didn't get it.. Kenny stared at her boobies, laughed, winked at me and was laughing so hard, I couldn't take the picture! Ahh such a good kid, we need those kinda of guys in roadracing. ;)
We have them. There's just nobody there to see them. :(

I passed up a opportunity to meet Roy Bittan of the E Street Band after a show. We were in a bar across the street, and he was there with friends unwinding after another Springsteen Marathon show. We just didn't want to bother him.

Cool vid..

As far as the star struck thing?
I get it, and I think that it is cool.. I see it a lot more over seas.. And a lot more in other sports as well.
It builds enthusiasm..
It builds excitement..
Nothing wrong with someone looking up to "Hero's", or simply being attracted by the presence of someone that they recognize.. And if they want a photo momento of that moment? Let them have that and the pic.

I remember the first time that I went to the ranch with my friend Chuck.. He was to ride, I was just there.. To watch.
Rainey, Kosinski, Lawson, Greene, Sr., Jr.,
I was, like you WERA, struck.. No pics were taken, but that was because I talked myself out of bringing my camera back in the day.
I wish that I did.. Some took pictures, and the "guys" seemed cool with it and were more than happy to embrace and smile. Oh well..

In my line of work, these situations happen a lot.. Weekly..
Sure, most like the conversation to be similar to a friend saying hello.. Casual..
Many times, there is a part of me inside that is much more excited than the outside shows.. And at times? The part of me gets out.. At times anyhow..
Say cheese..

Met Schwantz a few years ago for the third time.. And the camera came out. He was all good about it, and that pic is on my wall.. Right next to my '87 Aria replica of Kevin's lid that I used back in the '80's. I gave him shit about crashing while in the lead back in '87 at Laguna.. Told him that my friends (Rainey guys) gave me shit for a month after. He laughed his ass off.
Makes a difference to have a chat, then the pic..
But I wouldn't hold it against anyone for doing the same thing.
If I met Marc? You could count on it that the camera would come out.. Label me how you'd like.. But I would LOVE to meet that kid. :D

Knowing when not to approach, can come in handy..

We find it funny when guys like you come up to us and pretend your not star struck. Whilst some display "I'm too cool to be star struck", the fact you are standing there talking to us and blowing smoke up my arse is sign No. 1 your star struck. As guys like you don't stand giddy eyed next to random nobodies. You just don't have the boobs to get guys like mine's attention. But don't kid yourself, your star struck like the rest if them, hence why you stop and put on the act that your not.

I've met Schwantz a couple of times. The first time, I was intimidated, and didn't try to talk to him. The second time, I ran into him in the Ohlins booth in Indy, and he chatted happily with me for half an hour! I was a Rainey guy, but I'd seen Kevin race since WERA.

And it's funny, even when I was a photographer out of college, and had my camera with me all the time; I rarely used it for that sort of pic. I'd photograph a celebrity for the newspaper, and no big deal. The only guy whose path I crossed that way that I was excited about was Jim Craig....the goalie of the 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team of legend in Lake Placid. That was cool, and I got an autograph, but no pic with him. Gotta say, though, that he looked like a deer in headlights most of the time...I think that's part of why I try not to impose most of the time. He was there for a scheduled public appearance, and he was overwhelmed by the attention. You could see he wanted to be anyhwere else.

These days, even with a camera on my hip 24/7 in my phones, I still rarely think to grab a pic of anything.

It's Tye's alter ego
went to my first road race, the 93 charlotte ama race where Doug Polen hit the hay bail and still won. Rode my 89 cbr600 there on sunday. At the end of the superbike race I had rode over to the winner circle and a guy from SBS brakes says " hey kid you want in the circle" hell yeah I did. Wound up meeting Doug and talking with him for a good 15 minutes. It was awesome I was just their and some how I met him and he's having a conversation with me, all I said to start it was congratulations and great job. I was track testing cars at VIR a few years ago and Doug was there doing his One on One school, still the same nice guy. Was at the 94 ama finales at road Atlanta and wasn't paying attention to where I was walking and ran into Mick Doohan, another great guy to meet.

The perks of an internet forum...pretty easy to be anonymous. Maybe he is a famous racer/ex-racer or someone that most of us might now...hell it could be Troy Bayliss for all we know! :D
Nah, he writes in proper English. Someone from the UK? BTW, has anyone heard from Zoot lately?

Sydney actually.

But no, he isn't some famous racer dude from what I can tell. Just another engineering nerd who loves motorcycles. :)

Ummm...really?? You can tell that, just like that? Also, you can be an engineer, love motorcycles, be rich, famous, and australian at the same time....Jeremy Burgess would be one that fits that criteria!
Yep, I tracked him down to his profession and everything. Appears to have quite an interesting life outside of the forums. Since I'm not 100% on this, I'm not gonna publicly mention it, but a thorough google search wound up with a few possibilities, one of them being in Sydney. ;)
Creepy...
